I tend to get sick a lot?
Not gear related but some of you guys are pretty damn smart.
So it typically happens most in the winter. I get sick when the first cold snap comes through, and it seems like it doesn't end until spring comes (then allergies take over, but that's another story).
It comes and goes, but basically all winter im congested and/ or runny nose. The part that comes and goes is sore throat, joint stiffness and an over all unwell feeling (feel feverish but body temperature is always normal). Strength takes a big hit during these times as well.
I work about 50/50 inside and out. When i go out i always try to keep my head warm. I'm on trt and usually take a multivitamin (but not always, never seems to make any difference).
I also have a 7 year old. Which is probably a large part of the problem.
So what do you guys think? How can i stay healthy throughout the winter? I'm going through my second bout with this crap already this year so im open to suggestions

How is your diet? Any GI problems? Do you take probiotics?
Most of your immune system is in your gut, so I'd start by improving gut health.

Definitely some probiotics...and typically ppl tend to get sick with the change of the seasons...
Workin outside I'm sure doesn't help ur situation as I work outside alot too..and just bein in the elements alone would do that to u..

My diet is certainly more comparable to a common person as opposed to most of you guys. Only thing i pay attention to is protein intake, other then that i eat what i want.
No gi problems. I'm naturally regular, no probiotics, no extra fiber. I also don't eat very many greens.
Where should i start? Probiotics? More greens? Fiber supplements?

Don't worry about fiber supplements. As long as you're eating whole grains and vegetables, you'll get plenty of fiber.
I'd start with some "Greens +" or similar greens powder, as they contain probiotics and a bunch of antioxidants and micronutrients.
Get some Bragg's apple cider vinegar too, as it should help with gut flora and such.
Vitamin C is an obvious one.

See your Doc. Your immune system may be out of wack. It happens. 2 summers ago I kept getting sick every 3-4 weeks. Doc sent me to an allergist who did a complete blood work-up and found some of my immunity markers were low. She gave me a pneumonia & flu shot which rose these marker levels and I've only been sick maybe 1-2 times since then.

Are you washing your hands frequently enough? And are you getting enough sleep at night?

interesting thread.
I used to get sick all the time…until i had my tonsils removed as an adult. I am rarely sick now. When I start feeling congested, I use a netti pot and do a nasal rinse and try to get more sleep.

I'm going to pick up probiotics when i go to the grocer this weekend. So nothing to report yet.
Hk, I'm a mechanic by trade so yes, i wash my hands quite frequently. Even at home, just out of habit.
I get between 6.5-7 hours of sleep each night
