    Mastiff dog owners.

Just curious if anyone has had much experience with this breed of dog.
My wife and I are looking at getting a large dog. I have done a lot of research on them but wanted to see if anyone has had one and if they had good luck with it or any major problems that I might be overlooking.

Absolutely love mastiffs and been involved with the breed for 20+ years. Start your research @ mastiff.org. Look for a breeder that screens the parents for hip and elbow dysplasia, PRA, CMR and cystinuria at a minimum, IMO. Should you decide that mastiffs are the correct choice for you, be prepared for lots of drool, but also lots of love. The breed is extremely loyal and generally has a great disposition for a family pet.
If I can answer any more questions, shoot me a PM.

I don't know much about the specific breed but isn't there a couple different types of mastiff and they differ in tempers and behavior?

I have always been around the "bully" breed my whole life.

Yes there are quite a few different types of mastiff. English mastiff, bullmastiff, Neopolitan mastiff, Dogue de Bordeaux, Cane Corso, Perro de Presa Canario,, Tibetan mastiff. There are a few more, that's just off the top of my head.

love mastiff dogs, very loyal and obedience. i have bull-mastiff and she is a sweetheart, and very smart. Mastiffs in general are problem solving dogs, my mastiff learned how to open doors all on her own, whether its push to open or pull to open.

If you are getting a big dog, you may want to consider getting good insurance. My pooch ended up being very expensive.

My neighbour has a mastiff - big, calm and a very beautiful soul.

    Good luck.
