Thumbs up What is the horniest year of the Mustang?

My choice is the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500

428 cid, dual Holley four-barrel 600cfm carbs, 10.5:1 compression ratio

    Max BHP - 355 bhp @ 5,400rpm
    Max Torque - 420 lbs.-ft @ 3,200rpm

    0-60mph in 4.8 secs
    ¼ mile in 13.6 secs @ 106 mph

    Absolutely beautiful car.

    Honourable mentions to the 1967 GT350, 1969 Mach 1, and the 69-70 Boss 302.

I like the 69 mach 1 with the 428 cobra jet engine, but I have a 67 coupe with a 351 windsor out of a 70 model fast back. They both kick ass.

The 69 mach 1 with the 428 cobra jet was the fastest 1/4 mile car right off the showroom floor. Low 11 seconds right out of the box. Watched the years of ford the other night on speed vision.

Do you mean by Ford or any maufacturer back then?

I always thought the 66 Shelby AC Cobra was the fastest "Ford"...then outside of Ford the 67 Corvette Rat.

    Forget the mustangs, I'd take a 1967 corvette roadster. 427 with 435hp

Both, It was the Fastest 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile car off the showroom floor ford put out. No other manufacturer had faster track times right out of the box back then. The AC cobra was the fastest (road race) car powered by ford. I'm not talking trash about any other cars, just saying in 69 the mach 1 came with an 11 second option right out of the showroom. And that was for under 7,000 bux! Try finding a 11 second car today, it would cost over 100k

Acually in 69 chevy's Z28 was faster than the mach 1. This is one of the only 3 years that chevy made a 302. They didnt make many of them but the ones that they did make were bad ass.

Really? I found this comment hard to believe b/c I have ridden in a 302 and it was quick but not that quick. I could see a 427 Yenko tearing up some track times though.

It produced "290 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 290 ft. lbs. of torque at 4200 rpm" while "quarter mile times were in the low to mid 14-second bracket, depending upon the conditions the test was performed under."

    http://www.holisticpage.com/camaro/camaros_fs.htm
    http://www.cccvette.com/1969musclecars.htm

Secondly I also find it hard to beleive the Mach 1 did 11 seconds. I'm trying to find the stats on that car right now. I'm seeing times of high 13's.

I still like the Mustangs better.

I remember trying to drive one of those a couple yrs back, that bad boy did NOT like to idle to say the least. You have to floor it everywhere. My ears were also ringing for days afterwards w/ those mean sidepipes!....(drooooolllll...)

well concidering for the late 90's yeaj it was a fast car for its time if you could get it to hook. i can think of many car's that can beat its 11 second style. (1 being well since we are on the topic of ford mustangs)
2003 1/2 Gt40 500hp 500lbs torque, and at a healthy 110k this car can be ur's along with its incredible high insurance rates.

not being a ford man, my fav from the 60's...

'65 GTO. throw in a hand turned racing cam, new timing, and above all, replace the bolts with heavier gauge (today just use titanium) as the tourque would rip the engine right out of the chassis and you are good to go. go 0-60 in 4 sec that is.

my dad use to race and he had a modded 64 vette. the only thing that ever beat him was a goat. so when his friend crashed his vette he got one. never lost again.

I had a '69 camaro SS in high school, 454 with the muncie rock crusher 4 speed. Beautiful car, until I wrapped it around a tree... I still miss that car.

This is like comparing apples to oranges. All of these cars have over 100K into them over the price of the original sticker price by being sent to their respective tuners. Last I heard the 1000TT Hennessey was a 500K option. The Lingenfelter TT vette was in the area of 250K option.

Even with the dragpack option. This car would be lucky to turn out a 12.80 @ 110 mph in todays world.

Closest thing to an 11 second car in todays market? 2003 Cobra @ 35K MSRP. With less than 1000.00 in mods I watch these cars hit 11s every weekend.

The new cobras are badass but throw a pair of slicks on a new Z06(natually aspirated too!) and see what happens. They are trapping a few mph higher than the cobras. However, they are $15k more. Personally, ill stick with my 97 z28(just a few goodies on it)!

While not the fastast mustang, I'd say the most badass stang was the 69 and 70 Boss 429. Course that engine option cost you more than the rest of the car... Ford just had to sell 500 of these in order to qualify to race it as a production car.

Here's a pic of my baby..
