    11 year Old

    Sup Bros!!
    Got a question...
My eleven year old son Is playing in a very competitive soccer league on the road to pro.
It’s kind of hard with kids and getting them to eat the proper foods for optimal recuperation.
I wanted to know if it’s ok to supplement my son with whey protein due to high intensity of the sport?
Im thinking for better muscle growth etc....
    Thanks in advance

    Shouldn't be a problem.

He won't need much, too much protien will tax his kidneys

I'd say supplement with no more than 15g protein from shakes per day.

I frequently make strawberry banana smoothies for my daughter, I'll toss in a scoop of whey fir 19g protein added to 2 servings of shake, I'll split it with her

But I prefer making them with fairlife skim milk.

It has per cup 8 oz
    0g fat
    6g carbs
    13g protein.

I'd recommend moderate protein and moderate fat. these two are going to be the building blocks. fats are critical for development at the cellular levels, and of course hormone production. make fat and protein the foundation of his diet. then use carbs when needed as a 'fuel' source.
most kids have this backwards and are addicted to carbs and sugar. which are not needed for development (though I'm huge fan of high carb diets for enhanced bodybuilding).

    Steak
    Eggs
Whole chicken (not just the breast)
    Salmon
    Avocado
    Ground beef
    Bison
Milk and cheeses are fine too

when you do supplement with Protein shakes, use MILK and not water .

My 9-year old have a Vanilla protein shake ever morning with some Hershey chocolate syrup in there. She's had that for 3+ years now. We eat a pretty normal Western diet otherwise with all food cooked at home with fresh ingredients, that is partially because finding anything else around here is virtually impossible so we have to make everything else from the ground up.

That's not really healthy don't you think? The protein shake is good for breakfast and getting the day going but the hersheys chocolate syrup? If that stuff is just sugar and empty calories thats the path towards diabetes getting in that much sugar every day especially for breakfast...

Not sure I entirely follow your thought process here. Could you elaborate around your thinking a bit?

Its quite simple., your kid is drinking protein shakes okay thats fine but do you really think the choclate syrup is needed? Th sugar content is too high and not healthy.

I understand what you are saying. I think the whole food intake and its breakdown across a week would be more important and from that perspective, we are, from my subjective viewpoint, doing very well. The breakfast, which is what I mentioned above, is still only about 24g of carbs which is not that bad unless I am missing something.

Protein shakes for your kid are in my opinion absolutely unnecessary if he eats regular food. First of all he's in the age that he will grow regardless as long as he eat normally,
kinda like babies grow fast as f*ck on just mothers milk.
What can he need for high intensity sports? Like 0.5 - 1 gram protein per kg/ day on a body on around 35kg... That's nothing...

He need fuel in form of good carbs and fats, no protein shakes.
Eliminate fast sugar, read on good carb sources and put him on a training regime with a great coach.

My two cents are also to ALWAYS strive to eliminate as much fast sugar as possible for especially kids, we eat waaaay to much as it is and there are added sugars in fcking carrots today.
Sugar is a culprit in everything from health to daily performance.
Just read a new article that sugar has a huge impact on cardivascular issues, memory issues, daily performance, inflammation and joint issues.

Micronutrition diversity is very important for a young developing meal. Beyond nutrition, he needs to have a sleep program. You can't out eat or out train poor sleep.

    - blackout blinds for the windows
    - No screens / blue lights at least an hour before bed
    - 8 to 9 hours of sleep
    - in bed early

    Agree on everything here
Certain sugars are not good/healthy at all for adults and children especially. Those fast acting sugary foods cause health issues like diabetes and obesity.

Sugar is the number one health issue we face today worse than alchol, tobacco and drugs. SUGAR is fucking horrible for you

    ED,
I'm with you on all of that but I'm also sure that Tarmyg's kid is doing just fine and none of those diseases is a concern here. In some instances, like puberty or other periods of extreme growth, calories are a nutrient.

Sometimes we are conditioned by culture to see an issue that may not exist when looking at it from a larger context.

lol @ the squirt of Hershey’s syrup being bad. I used to put sugar on my Cheerios then drink the sugar and milk at the end.

I'm not disagreeing with that but I am also on the anti sugar side of things so i think giving anyone tons of sugar throughout the day isn't healthy and my comment wasn't against the guy
I'm not a fan of high sugar foods in the morning

If its one serving it can't be all that bad but people don't really follow serving size labels so my point is too much of that stuff isn't good..

hahahahahaha people have been using that shit for years and nothing has happened. I find it hilarious how funny people are.

11 year olds dont need to worry about that shit from having a shake with hersheys syrup.

Snack time around ur house must suck for the little ones.

Well it probably will if I ever decide to have kids (not likely)
If it does happen though it will be a sugar FREE household

I disagree... We do have health issues regarding exactly what we mention above and it's the reasoning "it doesn't happen to me/ us" that has put many (hardly not all) in a
bad position. This is not just concerning sugar ofcourse, but we hear/ read or take part in daily sh*t just like that all the time.

I'm eating candy and I drink coke, but that doesn't mean I gonna defend it with "it's nothing"... To create a new world regardless of aim/ agenda, we need to teach our kids the
way, they will keep shaping it. If we start with "don't listen to those f*cking pussies thinking sugar is bad" attitude to a young kids mind who is influenced by 3000 commercials saying "eat more/ drink more", well... shame on those parents.

I'm not saying that a parent is bad for giving his or her kid crappy food, and I'm not saying that they will explode for doing so, but I am saying that we should strive
to educate and teach alternatives already at a young age.
