New action movies suck
Is it just me? Every fucking movie is the same, a bunch of CGI explosions and crashes, fast switching angles that give you a fucking migraine, and way unrealistic scenes. The actors are not believable. They had Ryan Reynolds playing the main character in 6 Underground. I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes. They pick the least masculine, most clean cut guys to play these supposedly hardcore characters...
Then most action movies these days are not relatable. You don't bond with the characters. In fact, you hardly feel anything at all. Where is the suspense, the build-up, the fear, the anger, the acting? It's all gimmicky bullshit with product placements... The latest Jurassic Park was decent for the garbage we have these days, but I couldn't help but notice the constant Mercedes Benz product placements. It was nonstop. This is a thing with movies nowadays.
They decided at some point to add a bunch of humor into the mix, to make action movies even less believable. I don't want little snarky comments in the middle of action scenes to try and stir a laugh. This ain't comedy hour. I want tension and release. No comedy, no romantic bullshit, no little bit for the wife and gf. Now every movie has to cater to everyone.
When are we gonna have movies like the Terminator, Alien, Predator, etc., again?

To be fair they’ve made plenty of shitty terminator, predator, and alien sequels

I don't know... I guess I don't find the main actors very believable. Mickey Rourke was believable. Stallone was believable. Even Jean Claude Van Dam was believable. Just like the WWE these days - the actors don't look like tough guys, are not tough guys, and have no character. Man Bruce Willis had more toughness and charisma than all of these new guys combined. The Rock is probably the "Toughest" action actor out there now and even he was a cup of warm milk in my book, at his best. I want characters that are flawed, that have addictions, that have the world on their shoulders, that are real men with real problems.
Chris Hemsworth is a pussy to me, has no edge, no charisma. Same with "Dude where's my car" guy.

My bad, meant to say "Bill and Ted" guy. But all the same.

I miss the old Mickey Rourke did you like “The Wrestler”? I wish Stallone could have expanded his roles a bit, because the dude really can act.
TM, check out “Brawl in Cell-Block 99”. Don’t let Vince Vaughn throw you, he was amazing and he has all of the flaws that you mentioned and still was tougher than nails.

Fair enough! Lol I mean Chris is not a bad ass by any stretch but it was a bad ass movie.
I see your side. When you see John Wick, you can only see him in Bill and Ted. When you see any movie with Bruce Willis, you remember that first die hard with a fucking bad ass walking across shattered glass and killing motherfuckers! I hear ya bro

Yeah, I love the Wrestler; have watched it several times. I agree with you on Stallone, he just got caught up doing mainstream stuff, but could have been more.
I like Vince Vaughn, and I actually could see him playing a more serious role. I'm gonna check this one out, thanks for the suggestion.
You know, I saw one of them a couple of weeks ago with some people (the one where the Russians kill his dog), and I didn't think it was that bad. It was better than I imagined, but still a little too much action and not enough depth or emotion imo. He always plays these autistic type of characters that I find hard to connect to.

I liked 6 underground.
I was an avengers fan because of hulk.
Watched the cartoons with my kids growing up and then followed into marvel/disney avengers movies.
The thing that pisses me off is spiderman/venom/captain America/Iron man/etc
They were weak geeks that were granted special powers etc.
Never a bad mofo to begin with. Always a loser pussy.
What if for once the Rock was given a special elective surgery that made him... Captain america/Hulk?
They are feminizing them all and what they did to hulk in end game was unforgivable.
Hulk was the brute and unstoppable.
In the cartoon Ultron was stronger than all the avengers. His solution to deal with hulk was he shot him into outer space before he fought the other avengers.
Hulk got pissed and punched out of his indestructible space capsule...
Lo and behold ultron is beating the piss out of all the avengers.
In drops hulk....
Rips ultron in half in seconds by grabbing his shoulders and pulling him apart.
Hulk was the badass masculine secret weapon the avengers could barely keep under control.
Then they turned him into a valley girl speaking pussy.

Wind river was good
Took my kids to see endgame. When captain America lifted the hammer was probably the most reaction grabbing scene in any movie I watched in theatres. The place lit up.
Overall they killed it with the end in retrospect.
Cell block 99 was great as prox said.

This could have been way better if they hadn't added so much bullshit like what they did to hulk and spidermans presence etc.
Disney trashed avengers with pc shit and feminization.

Fixed it for you. It's not just action films. Everything now is about political indoctrination. It has to have a mixed-race couple, a same-sex couple and repeated mention of global warming or Hollyweird won't fund it. People go to the movies for the escapism it offers, not to be lectured to by limousine liberals.
As H. L. Mencken said, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." There's obviously better ROI on the cheap schlock Hollyweird is making now than on quality films. If there weren't they'd change their tune.
And have you not also noticed how many more films and TV shows feature unattractive women than used to be the case? It's reverse-discrimination all over again.
Top left is Claire Foy, who is gorgeous. She starred as Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons of FX's The Crown. And admittedly she is substantially more attractive than the woman she portrayed. In season three they needed to age the Queen a bit so they replaced Foy with Olivia Coleman, top right, who is fugly. I also hated watching her in ITV's Broadchurch, which she co-starred with David Tennant in. Each episode I was torn whether to wash my eyes with bleach or just gouge them out with a spoon.
Bottom left is Helen Hunt, who's "best if used by" date was on or about her 16th birthday so she's not exactly been "easy on the eye," as they say, for going on 40 years. The image above was from her starring role in the 2019 ITV series World on Fire, which was filmed after she fell victim to one of the worst facelifts in Hollyweird history. The series was truly unpleasant to watch because she looks like an escapee from a hospital burn unit. The only good news is that she's a shoe-in to replace René Auberjonois in the role of Odo the changeling (bottom right) if they should ever feel the need to reprise Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (because she wouldn't even need make-up).
If I could be bothered to take the time I could probably come up with another dozen examples but it's obviously too widespread to be coincidental. And no, in general I do not find that their strength of acting makes up for their "attractiveness deficit."
But back on topic, did you see the 2019 film, Midway? The script and the acting were atrocious but neither was a bad as the CGI, which was truly amateurish. Such a historic event deserved better because absent some extraordinary US intel work (and Chester Nimitz having balls the size of grapefruit), the American navy's influence would have been drastically limited after Midway and the Japanese would have owned the south Pacific. Instead the Japanese navy was crippled and the American navy took the momentum in the War in the Pacific.Last edited by Beetlegeuse; 06-21-2020 at 02:38 PM.

Wind river looks like a good one. Gonna try and torrent it and see if my cable internet provider sends me another email.. I have 2 strikes so far.
I'm not gonna lie, I usually avoid superhero movies, but the last batman I saw was pretty good. I liked some of the X-men movies though.
Scarface, as generic as it seems, is still one of my favorites. That and Goodfellas. Matter of fact, Blow is too... and American Made. I guess all the drug movies.

Give Extraction a chance if you haven't seen it, new and I thought it was a great action movie

I'll see your (face like a) Mare Winningham and raise you two Amy Madigans. She had a face like 10 miles of bad road when she was in Carnivàle in the early oughties. Now she's in Penny Dreadful and the most dreadful thing about the series is looking at her.
(thumbnailed to reduce the visual trauma)
And I never said there weren't ugly women in films before (Babs Streisand, Who-peed Goldberg, etc), it's just that now there's everywhere. The number of strange-looking if not downright unattractive women in Game of Thrones outnumbered the truly beautiful ones.

I really liked "The Wrestler," but it really wasn't the experience most wrestlers have from the business (with the exception of Jake Roberts whom they borrowed a lot from).
But yeah, action movies and movies in general are the schitz. The glory days are well behind us and now we're just left with 90 minute odes to SJWing with bad acting and bad storylines (not to mention the not-so-special effects).

You know, objectively speaking - it’s round, full, tight and high. Meets my criteria actually. Now proportionally is where I have an issue. If the lower legs out-balance that ass ... then I’m getting intrigued. However, I will need you to still wear a wig, skirt, stockings and heels.

Last night I watched Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash (one word review: Don't). And a film that you might think would have no need for CGI had some that was truly inept.
This is a screen shot from the film of the plane minutes before the crash:
(click to embiggen)
First of all, they used a DC-3 in the film but the Skynyrd airplane was a Convair CV-240. Which is like doing the life story of James Dean and showing him killed in a wreck in a Chevy Corvair instead of a Porsche 550.
But even if you'd never heard of "Free Bird," what should stick out to you in this pic is that the plane is in a left-hand bank but the left aileron is displaced down, the right aileron doesn't seem to be displaced at all, and the rudder is way, WAY out to the left. When the left aileron should be up, the right aileron should be the one that's down and the rudder should be displaced to the right.
The idiot who did their CGI doesn't have a fucking clue how an airplane flies. But it fits because the entire film was utter shit and should have been subtitled "The Love Song of Artemis Pyle" rather than "The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash." It was so highly biased (in favor of Pyle) that I went to IMDB.com to check the credits to see if he was a producer. But he's only listed as a "consultant."
They use CGI to save money and apparently in this case that extended to failing to hire subject matter experts to prevent the special effects from turning into a Wile E. Coyote cartoon. Same was true of the film I mentioned earlier, Midway. Their CGI people didn't know Sweet Fanny Adams about either how airplanes fly or fizziks in general. And it also had a lackluster plot and no character development.
Yes. And I wish I hadn't.

I found Bad Boys For Life in the library of Kodi on Firestick yeterday and finally watched it. Well, it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't as funny and good as the old two parts. Do you guys like this film?

Greyhound is the best war movie since Fury.
It's a WWII Allied surface convoy versus U-boat wolfpack so I'm sure there's a lot of CGI in there but it's well done and well-concealed. It's done a little differently from most films of that ilk, focused mostly on the senior captain of the destroyers escorting the convoy. The challenges and torments of command, like sometimes having to take decisions you know will result in some men under your command being killed so you can save a larger number.
And there's never so much as a single scene shot from inside any of the U-boats. You only ever see the Nazis when there's a sub on the surface and men on its deck. They waste very little plot on back-stories or pre-history of ships' crew. When the occasional flashback does occur, it's materially connected to something that's going to happen in the film.
And there's no individual heroism apart from swabbies who get killed below decks (and off camera) while dutifully tending to their battle stations as the ship is struck by a U-boat's deck gun. The lone exception is Nazis standing in the conn of their crippled sub and shooting at a fast-closing destroyer with their machine guns as the destroyer, in return, is training its 4.7" guns on their boat's sail. Sort of like ...

Just saw Greyhound, was a good movie. Very interesting to see how they operated in those situations. Felt like it was only 30 min when it was and hour and a half. A lot of action and not much time wasted.
