Happy Independence Day!
244 years ago today, the Continental Congress passed a resolution declaring independence from (formerly great) Britain. This article appeared later that day (July 2nd) in the Pennsylvania Evening Post:
On July 3rd, John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail (from Adams Family Papers: An Electronic Archive. Massachusetts Historical Society. ):
But the Day is past __ The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epoch in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival....
Demonstrating once again that American history is much less simplistic than you might have been led to believe.

Every man has the ability to be a fool, it is what he does to recover that shows who the fool really is.

Hate that the flag gets burned to protest against the bad apples.
Many, many good men and women have died so we can live under that flag.

Despite all it's faults, it's still the best country in the world.
.
Agreed DLD, it's illogical. If you analogized it to anything else, it would seem completely irrational. Destroying something that represents your right to destroy it even though it symbolizes something much greaterLast edited by HoldMyBeer; 07-03-2020 at 04:17 AM.

Burn the flag and get exported. Let them go and experience another country.
They probably wouldn’t burn it again.

The English used to have a punishment called "transportation." A sentence of transportation meant you were being shipped to "the colonies" or later to Australia. From 1718 thru 1775 they sent about 52,000 convicts to the American colonies, about 10% of all English emigres. Most were convicted of truly ghastly crimes, such as having a debt you couldn't pay or walking the streets late at night. After the Brits lost the colonies they switched to Australia and shipped about 164,000 convicts there.
Of course the ACLU would scream bloody murder over your plan, but putting the ACLU's knickers in a twist usually means you're on the right track.
EDIT:
The Brits have a long track record of hypocrisy in human rights. They banned slavery on Ol' Blighty and her Caribbean colonies in 1833 but not in her African colonies or in India. Nigeria, which was a British colony until 1960, didn't abolish slavery until 1901.Last edited by Beetlegeuse; 07-05-2020 at 09:16 PM.
