There was nothing to gain publicity wise. Actually each actually lost, even in this city, the media mocks the awards and this thing brought even more negative publicity.
Will Smith is publicly being ridiculed out here, which doesn’t help his career.
Chris Rock hot hit in public and did not hit back which to some in his “community” is a sign of weakness. He also lost some of his female fan base with that remark.
The police have stated they will move forward if Chris Rock presses charges and trust me, the police out here have zero patience for this bs, particularly if it involves blacks.
It was a lose-lose situation and not for publicity.

Agreed to the said above.
Unless the oscars needed ratings that bad and told them to do this which I doubt.
Even though Will is a good actor, I didnt see any acting in between the two.
But I found it the most entertaining event of the year!!!
They should both get double the awards!!!Last edited by wellshii; 03-29-2022 at 05:19 PM.

I will say that everything in the picture fits the words and makes sense. When I first saw the incident on you tube, the very first thing that popped in my mind when Will Smith was walking up to him (still several feet away), was why were Chris’s hands behind his back. When someone is advancing on you unexpectedly it’s kind of unnatural to do that.
Seeing all the fallout here in this goofy city still makes me think it wasn’t staged. Will’s catching shit for his usage of language, it was just a bad look for everyone and I don’t see a plus side.
But again, that was a cool pic with descriptions, TY.

Fake or not, it has us talking about the Oscars, so mission accomplished in that regard.

I do wonder why Smith was sitting front row. I don't think he would warrant that this year, but I'm out of that loop.
Also, that language was pretty stiff for prime time broadcast TV. Idk if it was taped or live.

Smith won an award a few mins later for King Richard. He very well was in proper seating. As for real or not I’m on the fence as well. I lean towards real, I think he’s been demasculated for the CB past year or so due to his wife’s indiscretions, he’s been the butt of many jokes, he finally had an opportunity to hit someone half his size who he knew wouldn’t fight back in front of a large audience to prove his manhood. IMO

I’m still leaning towards it was real. The fallout in tinsel town is not good. The f bombs by WS, sealed the deal for me.

I don’t understand how one can view that video and believe it’s fake… I also do not see any benefit to it. Why would any of the two involved agree to do something like this? Makes 0 sense. People make everything a conspiracy lmao

It does seem to be working out well for Rock. Tickets to his show last night doubled in price from what I read this morning. Still doesn’t mean it wasn’t real, just interesting to see the benefit already. As for Smiths side……….I don’t know, have yet to be seen I guess.

One doesn't prove the other. They could have scripted this at a bar, outside in a park, anywhere else, if it was the purpose of selling more tickets. We have to look at the cause and effect of these actions and everyone involved. The Oscars as a company has nothing to gain from this. It is a once a year event, not something that will air next week, and the weeks after. There will be no increase in viewership because of this event - in fact, it will be long forgotten by next year when it airs again. Hollywood is not in lack of funds or attention for them to pull this type of publicity stunt.
This doesn't look good for any of the parties involved. Chris Rock was bitch slapped on national television and did nothing back. Will Smith is now chastised by the vast majority of society and will probably be banned from future Oscars evens, and probably even be passed on by many directors/film companies going forward.
The idea that this is stage is another example of conspiracy nuts or people with poor assessment of facts or what's right in front of them. We have a lot of experience with those people in America and in my eyes, they're all the same: (Qanon, Covid is fake, Hillary is a child molester, etc.) It's more a sign of the times for me and how deluded half of America has become (or probably was, I just didn't know it).

I’m not stating whether it was real or not. Just pointing out the series of events that followed and how it benefits/hurts each involved. Smith needed his “Cred” back after the past year or so. He got that. Smith doesn’t need another movie role, doesn’t need endorsements he’s set for life. He’s going to claim he was so entrenched in being the King Richard character of Venus and Serena’s father that he couldn’t necessarily ditch the mental strain it took on him and this was an out of character example. He’ll apologize again and it’ll be forgotten. Rocks shows are selling out and ticket prices are skyrocketing. People are taking about the Oscar’s which had that not happened someone like me never would have even known the Oscar’s were on tv lol. There really isn’t bad publicity from this.

I’d mentioned this before I think; even in tinsel town, the Oscar’s are the butt of regular jokes and ridiculed. The length, the boredom factor, the tedious award speeches, etc. This incident only hurt. As TM stated, Will Smith ain’t looking good out here amongst his peers and if it turned out that his wife did truly encourage him (like her admitting it), then she is going to catch hell. Chris Rock was out of bounds with the joke because it was the wrong setting. That said, if that were Ricky Gervais who goes out of way to be an asshole when he hosts award shows (often with a beer in his hand) it might of worked, because it’s what you expect from him.
Publicity stunts at the Oscars consists of a host ordering pizza (lol, Q fanatics) and Brad Pitt passing out slices to the crowd.
Not a Will Smith or Venus/Serena fan, but we just watched King Richard and it wasn’t bad.

Academy hands Will Smith a 10-year ban
Wrong again conspiracists.

Man, I didn’t think the fallout would be SO anti Will Smith and pro Chris Rock out here. F’n Hollywood. I didn’t realize “the slap” tainted a tribute to the movie “The Godfather” at the awards. Maybe they both need to “be sleeping with the fishes”.
