    13 Lives

Oddly, Ron Howard made Apollo 13 as well. Similar to that movie, builds up and maintains the suspense really well and keeps at an excellent pace; never slows down, no fillers or long bits of extended dialogue. Damn good cinematography as well.

I’ve scuba dove before - and with a full wetsuit (particularly with a hood) it can get a bit claustrophobic. And if the visibility is crappy, can be a touch spooky as well. How the hell those dudes maintained their composure through those tight tunnels? Damn!

My girls brother was afraid of water. He joined the navy to face his fears after becoming a pro diver.
He drowned in a lake 21 years ago.
After losing her parents and uncles at a young age she can't even watch the opening to vikings with me. His shadowbox is on our side table.

    I nearly drowned twice.
I don't hate water and love the sea but fuck a bunch a tight spaces lol

    Sorry to hear.

I could swim then & only the bare minimum to pass the test. Agree, tight spaces (Fuck caving) freak me out.

In college, my scuba professor was ex-navy & was into maintaining composure. His favorite drill (and my least favorite):

Tread water in deep end x 2 minutes to get breathing a little heavier.
Swim to the bottom of the 15 foot end of the pool.
    Locate the damn mask
Put it on, then clear the water out (have to exhale air)
The regulator to breath through has a combination lock on it with the combination written on it.
    Undo the combo.
Take the regulator and attach it to the air tank.
    Take a couple of breaths.
    Do the reverse.
    Resist flipping off the teacher.

Still, diving through thick 15 foot kelp with full gear, getting the gear tangled in that & having your mind thinking that you could easily encounter a shark that you can’t see till you’re face to face? Did that once, never again. Needed lots of visibility and warm water from that point on.

I use to be a fairly good swimmer as a kid but I was 45 before I got certified for diving. I had been diving several time prior to that though. My 1st time diving with a buddy I almost gave up and he wanted me to stop because my left ear would not clear. I did exactly what you are Not supposed to do. I kept going down slowly and it finally cleared at around 40 ft. Seriously no it clears easily ever 3-5 feet.

I had a hard time passing the test also treading water the whole time due to low body fat at the time and I would sink like a rock. lol Putting the mask on and gear really wasnt an issue for me.

Im lucky, no claustrophobic tenancies. Even before I was certified I went on a few 1st time dives on trips and they always assumed I was certified because I got to stay down longer with the instructors because I didnt hardly use any air. Most people breath to fast. One of the beginner dives in the Bahamas I was snorkeling while one of the groups was diving and kept going down to around 40-45 feet with only a mask and snorkel to say hi and back up. I dont think I could hold my breath that long now.

I would love to do some cave diving sometime as well as spelunking but I have to wait until the shoulders finish healing up. Ive crawled into some tight spots in a couple caves I probably shouldn't have in the past and wanted to explore more but the person I was with had to turn back. Probably a good thing.

On subject, that was amazing they were able to find and rescue all those kids. I would have loved to be a part of that.

You aren't in Seattle anymore right? Ive dove quite a few places. Hawaii, Bahamas, Mexico, Thailand, Philippines and of course Puget sound. I have to say on those rare days the Puget sound is clear it is the most colorful and lively places I have dove. All the bright colors make you feel like you are on another planet.
