Everything you’d care to know about a random nuclear attack
The book is called “Nuclear War”, the author is Annie Jacobson. Using around 50 experts and tons of references from the military, CIA, nuclear scientists & professors, she goes through a minute by minute and often second by second account of what would happen if N. Korea fired just one ICBM with a thermonuclear warhead at the Pentagon. Minutes later they fire a second missile from a submarine just outside of California aimed at a nuclear power plant in CA. Pretty astonishing.

Yeah, I saw her on a podcast (I believe it was with Lex Friedman...???), and it was really scary.

I'm so tired of hearing about the "nuclear war" fear porn. This stuff is published with the intent of making people live in fear of their demise.
If it's not this, then it's the sensationalism of weather. We don't have rain anymore, we have atmospheric rivers dumping water on us. And there is no more summer. It's just an "extreme heatwave."

It was insane because of the sources she’d use. And to me fear wasn’t the motivation of the book (although multiple mile diameter fireballs hotter than the sun & moving at speeds several times faster than hurricanes is a little bit of a concern), it was just a grim reality that nuclear war will be an elimination of life in a very short time, even if started with one lone ICBM from N. Korea.
BTW, her previous book on AREA 51 was equally amazing.
