it doesn't matter because it's like a 500 : 1 girl to guy ratio. there's so many girls there.

Hmm.. where you know no one? If you can deal with winters, a bunch of my friends go to Uconn and love it. It's bigger, not too diverse, beautiful, good for psych, not too expensive, And has a very community feel. If you want a college town, nothing beats boston. BU has a good psych program, but it's expensive. There are some fake people, the "metrosexuals" but they're easily avoided. If you think you might like NYC, i have a friend at fordham that loves it.

Hell, i agree 30,000 students is a lot. but you really dont notice who you dont want to notice...if you know what i mean. Once you get to higher level courses, most of the people around you have the same major and you see a lot of the same people everyday. Tech has the (or one of the) largest campuses in america...plenty of room for all the students.
and btw *cough* i think that is already 4 votes for TTU *cough*

If you want to go greek, stay away from the northeast.. It's not really the thing to do up here. We think it's a little silly to pay for friends.

SO I figured out this much from this thread so far... I want a smaller school, good community feel..PRO greek life... not too many fake people (only going to be able to figure that out by talking to people who go there) umm a GOOD school for psych I want to be able to get into a GOOD grad school... gotta go with big green's advice and at least go to oneof the eight "real" schools for grad school... texas is sounding better and better... also was thinking about illinois..michigan... basically anywhere with A LOT of exceptions

Don't overlook a school just cause you think they are too bucolic and local. And eventually you will have to meet someone who is not white, so your gonna have to get used to itI think the bigger the school the better, as you have so many more option s of classes to take, and majors to choose from, and if you are worried about friends, barring that you have an uncontrollable urge to vomit at uncomfortable time, or have some other ridiculous social deviance, you will make TONS of friends in the dorms. Remember you can always transfer out later.

alright well I'm not worries about meeting people who aren't white... I've got non white friends now...in fact my closest friend all together there's one white person... and that's adding the two white halves of diff. people... ANYWAY.... I hear all these diff. opinions and they all sound good so this is hard as hell... but I just want a psych major... then follow it through.. I'm not worried about med school yet... and thanks for pointing out my typo chica
I've applied to two big schools... one more diverse, in a bigger city and I think more academically sound... the other being a big party school in the middle of nowhere.... one in state..the other out... now I think I should find a couple smaller schools to apply to.... one in texas.. maybe one or two in illinois... or that area what do ya'll think?

If you like Oregon, take a look at CSU Humboldt. It's in Arcata, CA, a few hours south of the border. Hope you like liberal thinking, it's the only place on earth I have ever been to that is more liberal than Berkeley. But it's a smaller school with a good Psych program with small student/teacher ratios, a good Masters program, etc.

Paem...i have to add my voice to a couple that already made my points (just because i think they're so right!)
1) Arizona State - i did my undergrad there in nutrition (great department!). It's relatively easy to get into, but ironically, is a pretty wellrounded academic school - psych dept is supposed to be pretty good as well. It's a rather large campus, but they do a lot to make it feel smaller - i loved it!
2)I just started school in Boston - great place to be - seems like there are a million colleges to choose from out here...i think someone above said BU had a good psych program (go bu!)...

Head over here to the east coast and apply to the University of Vermont.....I transferred here last year and am having the time of my life. If you don't like the crowded cities but want a place that has a lot to do then check out Burlington.

Tulane has an excellent psych program, as I recall. If you are thinking Texas, look at Rice. Your 3.8 should go a long way in admission there. Also, check out the Princeton Review website. They are great for SAT prep and also have great info on colleges. I found them to be extremely helpful when I was prepping for college. Also there's Vanderbilt, if your into the formal social scene (southern style). Great academics as well.
Since diversity is the name of the game now, you should have an edge at schools that are farther from home - except maybe certain Ivy league schools that draw from all over. In that light, Some excellent state schools like UNC and UVA, as well as some smaller private universities in the south or east coast might offer you a great education at a reduced price.

I went to WVU because it was rated #1 party school at the time by Playboy magazine. Looking back, I think I'd be hard pressed to find a better choice. Not only did I have a great time there and make lots of friends, I met my wife and got a great education. I don't think they party as hard anymore because the school cracked down on all the big parties but it's still a great place.

UVA, Rice? Those schools are hard to get into! I doubt that I could be accepted there. I wanted to go to UVA but I took a closer look at their admission standards and well... I took hard classes, just not enough of them.
