Government bans ephedra
(CNN) -- Federal officials will announce Tuesday a ban on the sale of the herbal supplement ephedra because of continued health concerns about the product.
Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Mark McClellan were expected to make a statement later Tuesday.
Ephedra is an herbal supplement that is found in many over-the-counter products designed to help people lose weight or increase their energy, and has long been the subject of criticism.
In February, a medical examiner said an ephedra supplement was linked to the death of Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Steve Bechler.
A study commissioned by the National Institutes of Health also called into safety the use of ephedra, saying it was associated with higher risks of heart palpitations, tremors and insomnia.
Other studies have also suggested links to health problems.
The Annals of Internal Medicine reported this year that, although products with ephedra make up less than 1 percent of dietary supplement sales, it has accounted for 64 percent of the serious side effects that have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in association with dietary supplements.
A second study published in the journal Neurology found that the rate of strokes among ephedra users was higher than in nonusers. The supplement users in the study took more than 32 milligrams a day; some ephedra labels recommend almost 100 milligrams daily.
In October 2002, members of the American Medical Association testified before Congress on the dangers of ephedra, and the group has urged the Food and Drug Administration to ban the diet aid.
The AMA said ephedra use is linked to heart attacks, strokes and seizures, among other conditions.

Not illegal in Canada... *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*
Canada only regulated it a little more, can only get the 8mg tabs, no more 25mg tabs. (big deal, I take a tiny 8mg tabs instead of a larger 25mg tab).

Don't even get me started on the Steve Bechler incident. That is such a cop-out. The bechler family has a history of heart problems even going as far as having his brother dying at a young age do to heart complications. Also Steve Bechler had a history of heart problems himself and continueously came into training camp fat and out of shape. He was taking extremely large amounts of ephedrine to speed up that fat burning process while not eating properly and playing ball and working out for hours on end each day in high tempuratures. This then leaded to his death. It was not directly the ephedrine itself that did this.
Everytime I hear people use his name as an example of how bad ephedrine is just pisses me off. We all know you abuse anything beyond its limits and you are gonna have some major problems. Why should we be punished for this because some guy thought MORE IS BETTER

There has to be something else out there that still works and is legal. I hope.

ok, after watching the news reports we have a "few weeks" followed by 60 days before ephedra is no longer allowed to be sold. www.AllSportsNutrition.com is going to stock up on it as much as possible right now, and I hope that there is enough supply so that the price does not go up. I will keep everyone updated.

Everything is in short supply everyone. We are running out of stock fast and so is everyone else. Honestly, even though ephedra will be sold for awhile, supply is short and there is a good chance that prices will start increasing soon.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

I just use it as a pick me up before a workout. I feel bad for those who follow the directions and use it effectively for fat loss. For me it looks like a good reason to just take caffeine without the ephedra. I was going to stock up and by 4 bottles of stacker 2 but then I realized I should get off of it anyway.

www.gorillavitamins.com. They sell a product called Metabadrine that has the EXACT ingredients as the Xenadrine RFA-1. I know the guy personally and he's got a good stockpile. Hope that helps you all out there.

I can't even begin to tell you how ****ing pissed I am right now. Some stupid, fat ass donut eating piece of **** has just regulated one of the best supplements EVER out of the hands of every day people. Don't be suprised if you see ephedrine or ephedra available by prescription, except now with a Glaxo-Welcom stamp for $150 for a bottle of 30.
But you can get drunk and drive your car over a child, that's ok....
You can light up and smoke and get cancer and give it to everyone you come into contact with, that's ok....
You can have an abortion and kill a baby, that's ok....
But take a ****ing pill that helps you become fit and lean, and you look beter than that fat slobby piece of dog**** making the rules, that's NOT ok....
**** I am so pissed....

i guess there's nothing to do but stock up while we can...just in case i decide to use some anytime soon...

I stocked up last summer
It just sucks that some fat goobery dimwit can tell me what I can LEGALLY put into my body.
**** them with a stick, all of them. They haven't stopped a **** thing, just changed the avenue a little.
BTW just saw DeLuca (dude at bodybuilding.com) on the news, not a bad representation. The jerk off he was talking with was a prime example of what's wrong with this world.
