    Most Skilled Guitarist of Times?¿?¿

Who does everyone think the most skilled/favorite guitar player is?

    Skill wise, I would say:

    1) Yngwie Malmsteen
    2) Rusty Cooley
    3) Jimmi Page

My favorite though would have to be:

    David Gilmour

    What about you?¿

Pantera. Only one of the most progressive guitarists of our generation.

Really, Jimmy Page? David Gilmore? What is your basis for "talent"? I'd say both were pioneers in the art of guitar wierdism, but talent? I'm not sure I'd agree with that one. Technical skill comes into play at some point, and Jimmy Page was infamous for butchering things. Must have been the half gallon of booze he drank upon waking in the morning. And Pink Floyd in general makes me want to open a vein. Just listen long enough.

Nope, I'd have to say 2 of the best guitarists were Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Kirk Hammet was very good in his day, but has become stale as of late.

I was waiting for someone to come along and agree with me...

and just like everyone is saying.. "Hendrix/page".. you havnt heard his stuff...I bet those guys havnt sat down and listened to Joe Satriani... cause you can feel his music.. it vibes emotion. And playing JUST guitar.. no vocals to cover anything up.. THATS what makes it good 2.

Joe Santriani, I should of put him in, cause he has mad skills also.. I do agree with you he's got a style all his own.. Hendrix is in my eyes was a very skilled guitarist, as far as how he played, and the techniques he used, he was one of many that paved the way.. Van Halen, hands down is great in my book.. LOL i wanna say Slash, but i don't know if he'd fall in the category of 'great' he's just a cool muthafuker..

Dimebag Darrell is the lead guitarist for Pantera. That band took things to a new level.

Satriani is awesome, I must have burned a hole in Surfing with the Alien. Steve Vai's work was some of the best ever laid down. Joe's student, I might add.

Hendrix, Page and that bunch were very progressive in thier day, but it wasn't technically sound whatsoever. It grooved people on acid though. That was enough. But listen carefully. Better yet, pick up a guitar and try it. Even if you have never played in your life, you'll be strumming along to old Zepplin and Hendrix in no time flat.

    Now try that with Pantera

Mick Mars. He had a sound going that shook things to the core back then.

Judas Priest had 2 very very good guitarists in the early 80s, as did Iron Maiden. But I'm not a huge Maiden fan after Powerslave.

Ahhh the 80s.....where hair ruled, everybody was stoned and laid, and decadence was the rule of the day.

I appreciate good music, even if it's a genre I don't like. I love classical, Holsts "the planets", anything by Wagner, most of Beethoven, some Mozart.

It's really just the commercially acceptable middle of the road BS that grates me. It's like people hate extremes, but to me, mediocrity is the bane of human existance. Call me crazy....
