Quad shot
Has anyone hit the siatic nerve when hitting the quad. I never did quad shots only glutes and shoulders. I'm just scared of hitting that nerve and does the nerve go up both legs. Thanks

it's really not that easy to hit the sciatic nerve when injecting. the sciatic nerve runs down the middle of the glutes. a proper injection would be in the upper outside region of each asscheek. i have never had such an experience but those who i have spoken to who have had such problems say it is a pain like no other.

You inject in the outer quad. There are lots of nerves in the quad and I've definately hit some. Its just a little spasm, that's all. You're not going to hit the Sciatic though.

when you shoot in the quad do you go straight down or come from the outside and go in at an angle??

So that the needle is exactly perpendicular to the surface it is going into. So, when I'm sitting and doing it, the syringe is not straight up and down just looking at it.

That nerve runs along the back of your thigh...in the hamstring area. your odds on hitting it with a 1 1/2 needle are extremely low Unless your thigh is 1" in diameter, you won't hit it.

I can tell you for my personal experience that you can easily hit a nerve in a quad injection (I injected 6 times and hit 2 times a nerve), it´s painfull but it´s not that bad either. Only thing you have to do is to switch places untill you find a sweet spot....and remember always in a 90º angle.
Good Luck

i always sit down and have something under my leg in which i'm injecting into. i feel that it pushes the muscle up and creates more of a cushion for the needle to go into.

whe I did them I was standing but the injection leg was off the floor a bit...
so, sitting down, leg all loose, foot barely touching the floor?>?
how far up the leg is a good choice to stick the pin?

Dude, i just sit down, relax the muscle, and shoot. It is a fairly large muscle, so you should have a problem hitting all meat. With every day injections, I was hitting my quads as much as 4 times per week, and I haven't hit a nerve yet...maybe I'm just lucky

Good pic, broncojosh - you've got the proper spot right on.
There's also a pic of a quad shot by Terinox in this link, a thread which is running concurrently with this one. Much hairier , but he also provides a good example of where to shoot. I have also posted additional comments about quad shots in that thread.
