OK!! YO BRO!! Listen to the man. overtraining your muscles is the WORST thing you can do IF you are trying to GROW !!! Your muscles DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT grow while you are working them out in the gym!!! In the gym you are BREAKING down the muscle tissue!!! THEY grow ONLY when they are at rest repairing themselves !!!
IF your muscles are NOT fully recovered BEFORE you work them out again, then they start eating your PROTEIN for fuel, guess what your muscles are made of???? PROTEIN so you are really being counter productive.. But hey, if you dont' watn to listen, then stay small!!
There are members on here that get 10-12 hours of sleep EVERYDAY! and they are PROS

    Good luck, hope this helps

Rest is a huge factor when building muscle. Its the time when muscles recooperate and actually grow.

The work you do is only rewarded if you give your body the rest it needs for it to grow.

Everybody varies on this point. I personally do a 4 day split, but I try to utilize body parts that work together. I also always work from the largest muscle group to the smallest on any given day.
Day 1 is LEGS- Quads, hams, then calves
Day 2 Chest and tris ( since tris come more into play when working chest)
Day 3 Shoulders and bis ( I always do tris BEFORE bis due to flexibility)
    Day 4 Back, Traps, abs.

For me, I do calves 3-4 of the days because I am not blessed with the genetics for calves so I am trying to shock them into growth.
I am however blessed with good genetics with my abs, so I only do them once a week.
My workouts are usually 45-60 minutes max!!! If he can't get a good workout in that amount of time, he is not doing it right

    Hope this helps

yes do train everyday and grow

SMAN12B: Isnt there an oxymoron in saying training everyday would not allow GROWTH and then stating that "For me, I do calves 3-4 of the days because I am not blessed with the genetics for calves so I am trying to shock them into growth."
I am no professional BB, but I train everyday while on, for 1.5 hours ED, and still manage to grow slowly, pure muscle though as told by the mirrror. And only sleep 5.5 hours per day.

    sure I am an oxymoron...lolol

Calves are a different beast due to the amount of use they get on a daily basis. I didn't say what I was doing was OPTIMUM, it did say SHOCK as in it is a temporary thing in order to try to get through a barrier I have with them.

Genetics will play a part in some of this. and thus the reason EVERYONE is different. what I gave was a simple guidline. not gospel

people are diff there r very rare cases that can train everyday , i saw people like u they even train a muscle group twice a week and used to train 6 days , i knew a guy who trained 7 days with no rest while on a prop cycle and grew like hell , the point is those rare cases have faster recovery than normal people , but that doesn't mean that u r right belive me if i train ur way i will lose weight i need rest and i feel my muscle getting bigger while on rest , calves is a small muscle group it doesn't have a lot of exercises to do and when sman said he trains them 3-4 times it doesn't always have to mean that he do a whole workout for them , he might be splitting the volume over the week for eg: 3 sets each session (brings u of a total 9-12 sets through the week ) just like any other muscle group i donno what sman do exactly but a lot of people like to split the volume over the week to shock the muscle more often and thos people mostly follow a full body routine with low volume spread over the week , a year ago i used to belive that i can train everyday but when i saw the results after i included rest in my routine i knew i was wrong , again i'm saying there r very few people of fast recovery and u will be lucky if u r one of them mostly 2%
thanks anyway for ur post i was just trying to make things clear

It is possible to train 5-6 days per week, but only if you are isolating a new body part/muscle group each day and eating at least 1.5g protein per lb weight.

This is difficult to do, but this gives each body part adequate recovery time.
I used to work out 6 straight days mon-Sat, but got burned out, even on gear, and even with penty of rest and protein.
I then switched to something like this.
    i.e.

    Mon. Bi's/Tris
    Tuesday Legs (quads, hams, cavs)
    Wednesday Chest
    Thursday OFF
    Friday Back
    Saturday Shoulders
    Sunday OFF

Depending on your split, you could train 6 days a week. Everyone seems to agree though, that atleast one day a week is needed for rest and not weights.

With more days, you could just make your workouts shorter, and focus more on isolation instead of compound movements.
