    filtered gear

this might be a dumb question, but does using a whatman filter get rid of bacteria and viruses or just filter out any glass or unwanted particles from the gear? ordered some of the 20ml satchets and don't really trust that they are steril.

In a sense it just filters out any particles larger than the designated micron size of the filter. Whether the particles filterd are biological or not doens't matter. Some Bacteria and primarely viruses are smaller than the pore size of the filters I think. But the BA content of the gear should take care of that, you could also add some BA to the mix while filtering just to be sure, but if I recall correctly satchets allready have a high BA content(could be wron though).

Filtering should be just fine, just be sure to let it rest for a week before using it after it has been filtered.
