    Tamox/ cancer ?

I know there is lots of questions on tamox., but I would like to know why a Dr. would take my mom of tamox(breast cancer survivor) because he said she has been on it for 5 yrs and can't take it any more. Has anyone heard of that reason and why?

The doctor probably has a good reason to take her off. I don't know why because i'm not a doctor and i don't know her case study, but i'm sure he has his reasons.

The only thing he told her, was she has been on it for 5 yrs and can't take it anymore. She is cancer free and has been for 5 yrs. I think she said he put her on arimidex . I am not possitive on this but thats how she thought it was pronounced.

If she is cancer free than why would she need it still...?

He took her of because of 1 of 2 things..

    1 She no longer needsit
    2 He prescribed a substitute

Altough Tamoxifen and armidex are in two seperate fiels of their own regarding drugs

From what I have read, arimidex is a 3rd generation of tamoxifen . I will find out if it really is arimidex because she told me the latter is 6x's as much as the tamox, by prescription. THAT'S crazy. If that is considered prices I will edit. please let me know.

On my research travels ive read that here in the uk they use tamox around the time of cancer and in the so many years after while in a relapse danger zone, then once past that put on arimidex to 'cruise' if you like.

but then we pay a standard perscription charge for every drug, so there must be a 'medical' reason for doing so.....

I thought there should be a reason, but the only one given was that she can only take tamox for 5 yrs then you have to change.

Thanks for the response. I guess I need to go to her next dr's. appointment with her. I worked in the medical field 10yrs before launching this career.
