you guys all is well i just talked to nstart via pm and he is actually getting an nmr machine hooked up in his basement. he also showed me pictures of his unicorns, he has the loch ness monster in a pond behind his house, and often times he says bigfoot comes around just to say "hi." we're playing high stakes poker with three leprechauns each with a pot of gold if anyone wants to join. let me know.....

Wish I had been around when this was first posted. To begin with, if one isn't familiar with an NRM machine, the readout is going to be meaningless. It shows carbon, hydrogen peaks, etc., in a graph-like fashion, and has to be interpreted. If the friend was doing a PhD in chemistry, he wouldn't need to be asking what to look for. He would just run the compounds and interpret the results. And PhD in what type of chemistry? Not everyone knows how to read an NMR on such sophisticated products. A little more research with google and he could have been a bit more convincing.

^^ well in defense for the thread starter.... most times u know what a NMR readout looks like when u take orgo... and if u know the chemical structure thats when a NMR is helpful...

Yeah agreed, NMR is easy as pie to read. Couple that with mass spec and your golden.

Of course I say that, but I probably couldnt remember the difference between my primary and secondary hydrogens, my aromatic rings or anything else for that matter.......LOL

Exactly, you start throwing all those carbons and hydrogens in there from a steroid , it would be beyond me to read it. Mass spec would def. help, and IR wouldn't hurt either. Just seemed a bit odd of a post is all.

If one did have access to analytical equipment, why would one boast about it on open forum? Why not just run the tests on the compounds and then offer information based upon the results? Personally, if I had that information, I would wait until the information was requested and then PM. No need for all that drama.
