Should I take steroids? 38 male
Ive been lurking here a bit and appreciating the wealth of info. From what Ive read it seem that someone like me is probably not a good candidate due to my BMI. But I thought I would post some details and see what the experienced members recommend before I give up the idea.
My stats...
age: 38
Ht: 6'1
Wt: 167
BF%: 9
Lifting years: 5 recently and 5 between the ages of 16 and 21
Diet: definitely aware of the power of diet and protein consumption. I supplement whey after all workouts and try very hard to maximize clean calories.
I have put on 20 lbs of muscle in the last 5 years with dedicated lifting and trying very hard to maintain a high calorie/protein diet.
I would like to be 175 to 180 at 8% bf.
I have a really hard time digesting big meals and suffer with stomach pains and upset stomach when I eat too much. I have been stuck around 165 for a couple of years now but admit my diet has been lacking.
TIA
BTW, thats me in my avatarLast edited by obsessiv; 06-29-2009 at 10:27 AM.

Steroids will not help as you claim you cannot eat big meals. There is no way to get big other than eating more. Look into meal replacement shakes if food is too hard to eat.

Ive tried all kinds of shakes, I guess appetite is a big problem for me. I kinda thought steroids would have an effect to make me eat more naturally

Some people actually have less appetite on gear. Gotta find a away to eat, try eating every 2 hours so that you dont have to take in too much at once.

thx, I am pretty happy but I would love that extra 10 lbs of muscle which seems so elusive!
I eat
Meal 1: 4 egg whites and 1 or 2 yolks , 300 cals of carbs :bread or potato, 10 oz juice.
Meal 2: 45 g whey
Meal 3: 40 g food source protein(ie chicken, tuna), 1 cup brown rice, butter TBS
Meal 4: apple with 2 TBS PB
Workout recovery drink: 50g celltech, 25g whey
Meal 5: Protein 40g meat, pasta 1 cup.
Meal 6: Bowl cereal big lol, or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Usually a little over 3000 cals if you throw in a few fatty snacks

Have you had a basic hormonal level test?
Usually the first one most guys get is around 35?

After the age of 25 (some studies state sooner others later, does not really matter) the so called hormonal levels begin to decrease in men... We by our 40th birthday you are just a figment of our former hormonal selves (give or take a few years)
Regardless of how well you eat.
Regardless of how hard you lift.
Regardless of any of those factors if you are low hormonally you will not gain. < period end of sentence...

Yeah for some reason everyone thinks I look much heavier.
My advancing age was one of the reasons I thought now might be a good time to do a cycle, I actually did a cycle when I was 19, stupid kid back then, might not have even been real gear lol. I gained about 10 lbs of muscle and it really seemed to stay with me, I never regretted it. Almost like it set my body up to be muscular from that point forward.

you could look into a simple test cycle for starters. And its always good to get your hormonal levels checked before a cycle regardless of age.

I get so freakin frustrated when i read some of the bull shit some post based on no medical advice and just opinion...
IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE... Hormones decline slowly in most cases not like female menopause, If the mofo came here and posted he was having hot flashes then it would be another thread...
HE IS in his late 30s and has put in the time in the gym... It is NEVER EVER A NEGATIVE issue to recommend a blood test to just to make sure.
Once the free test level comes back he is going to know where he stand...
If looks had shit to do with it, one of my boys died from testicular cancer BUT HE 'LOOKED' great... F it I am stopping there...

His question:

No, do you think I might be low?
You're answer:
doubt it,
at 6'1" you look bigger than 165lbs.
By saying you "doubt it" you are expressing and opinion based on zero medical knowledge... By pointing to what he looks like you are basing his looks and his health to be related directly/indirectly...

ok, but if I am low is that an indication for hormone therapy?
-
06-29-2009, 01:06 PM #24
Yes...
Most free testosterone level test have a range... Example 240-830 If you are just inside the 250-450 range the doc will tell you are low but not low enough to get a script. But, you will know where you stand... above the 500 mark your body is still pumping out test to sustain a little something.
hGH level dramatically drop also, but thats another thread.
Generally by 50 you will be below 200 and experiencing what is commonly called waisting...

well me sayin he didnt look 165 had nothing to do if he should be tested or not i was just stating he looks bigger than that,, and me saying doubt it is because 9 times out of 10 he prb doesnt have a hormonal problem. Just cause a guy is over 35 doesnt mean he has lower than normal test levels. BF and testesterone are very correlated so yes its just an observation but id put money his levels arent lower than an average 38 year old male. And why dont you read my next post

instead of blowing a fuse. I NEVER SAID HE SHOULDNT BE TESTED.

I am not gonna get into a flamer fest here... My original response after:

I stand by that. You cant see how bring up some one's looks can be misleading that you.

Why are you guys even debating this? haha.
He's 38 years old, and has a very good build. A test cycle would be great to add some good lean muscle to his already very lean frame.
Look dude, here, I would say run a 12 week Test only cycle and seriously you have to eat more than what you posted. You can start off slow and build your way up, in no time you will be able to eat more food. But yes, in my eyes, you have the stats and are mature enough to run a good cycle, and make good gains (but you gotta eat!).
