    want some opinions

when it comes to olympic sports i am noticing that a ton of teams are getting busted by international testing agencies for doping and use of anabolics. many of these teams are European, Middle Eastern, and Asian teams.

i hardly ever hear of U.S. teams getting busted by international agencies for steroid use . this is because our national testing agencies are aggressive in keeping up with test levels in all athletes so it leaves little chance for the international agencies to bust the U.S. teams. i would know because i am a U.S weightlifting athlete.

the national testing agencies for the European, Middle Eastern, and Asian teams are obviously lax in their testing or maybe assisting their athletes gain access to the necessary drugs.

i'm hoping to figure out if this is true or what the opinions of other members from the countries in these regions are.

my opinion is that if the countries from these regions are having a ton of success in the olympics (when they don't get caught) why doesn't the U.S. get with the program. The U.S. hasn't medaled in weightlifting since the 60s.

I think steroids should be allowed in the olympics.

Just to clarify: i realize that olympic weightlifting is unpopular in the U.S. and that the pool of athletes is much smaller than that of the power countries like China. China has much greater chance of delivering a good team if they have more people who are interested in training for the sport.

But if these power countries are truly being tested for steroid use, the U.S. should at least be able to compete. for example, our number one male lifter lifted a total of 362kg at 85kg body weight. pretty impressive, right? he didn't even medal. he came in 8th overall. i've been training and hanging out with this dude for a couple of years and i know he hasn't touched gear.

just a curious mind asking for opinions on what you guys think.

I disagree. Steroids are not for everyone. The olympics are designed to bring everyone together for a competition of equal status, "Natural" where only genetics, training and hard work will sort the best of the world in there event. It's the pinnacle of performance in human evolution.

I would say "will sort the best among those who had the possibility to become athletes".

the fact stands that most of the elite level lifters have at least tried gear. if you want to be competitive you need to use.

The only way the olympics will be fair is if they legalise steroids across the board.. so everyone can be on equal terms

    ^^^agreed...
it would also be safer, as these athletes will do ANYTHING to pass a test when they are dirty which only screws them up even worst...

stop bragging about your friend if he was good enough he would get himself a gold...

Ivan Stoitsov. Bulgarian Olympic weight lifter. Ivan Stoitsov totaled 368kg at 76,83kg at the Weight Lifting World Champs 2007. His 158kg Snatch & 205kg Clean & Jerk got him gold.

i aint posting on this forum to brag. i don't have time for that shit. i'm trying to get a discussion going on steroid use in olympic weightlifting because its a topic that gets little to no attention. i would appreciate any opinions that you have on what i'm talking but forget it if you think im a damn joke.

not to take a crap on your parade but 'ol ivan is 77kg lifter. he weighed in at 76.83kg when he totaled 368kg at worlds. i was talking to bulgarian lifters about their steroid use at a meet in sicily 2 summers ago. but thanks for your input.
