Can Clomid Augment or Induce Depression

I've been on Clomid for roughly a month in hopes of jumpstarting a pituitary giving me secondary hypogonadism. Prior to this, I was on Testosterone for about 6 months as treatment.

When I started taking Clomid I was a bit depressed, now it's full blown. I'm not sure if its just the progression of the depression or if the Clomid is somehow involved.

Does anyone have any solid information on this?

I've heard stories about people attributing depression to Clomid during PCT, but it seems in that case, the more rational explanation would be the hormonal flux brought about by steroid use and its cessation rather than the Clomid would be the actual cause.

Sorry about ur illness and I hope u over come it. I hope this topic goes far because it was on my mind the other day. First I don't have any solid proof but I really think it's the chemical change taking place from ur testies to your brain. When coming off the test ur natural test needs to go back to production so the chemicals in ur brain are not balanced correctly leave u feeling depressed. I felt really down after my first few cycles and took celexa. Not sure if I needed it but I didn't want it to get worst. Not sure what roll clomid plays in it but I'm leaning on the ceasing of the test.

I dont know how to explain it medically but it could have something to do with the sudden drop after a cycle and then the slow pick-up from the PCT, but from what i hear many people on this forum over the years complained from becoming over-emotional/affectionate while on clomid, in your case if there was some depression before then maybe the clomid made you more sensitive about it hence more depressed?

I get more, emotional, not depressed though.

Lol, I broke out into tears when I was watching anne frank with my girl friend a couple years ago when I was on 150mgs of clomid for pct I definitely felt a change in my mood.

    Ya bunch a byotches!!

    No just kidding...Kinda :-)

As far as the depression coming off a cycle, yeah that causes depression on its own for sure and the clomid just adds to it. Clomid is well documented to cause deprssion on both female patients as well as male patients taking it for hypogonadism, so clomid can definately play a role.

Clomid contains 2 components: an antiestrogenic component, and an estrogenic component. The latter is what can cause the depression.
I would try switching to Toremifene.

I would say it is mostly the lack of test in your body. Good luck with recovery bro

No, Clomid has a direct effect on mood. Nolva and Torem don't do this.

To the OP, did you have depression symptoms before starting the 6 months of test treatment?

Yes, to a degree I had symptoms of depression before the T. It's been something that has come and gone throughout my life.

I'm going to have to look at those. Any specific reason as to why these don't have an effect on mood (my endocrinologist might need some convincing).

i've had no history of depression and im one of the most up beat people you'll ever meet, but on my first and only cycle of sust 275 for 10 weeks i went into a pretty low state of depression for about a month during pct using 100mg/ed for 2 weeks of clomid. i'm not advising that as good pct because after more research i've learned my dosage was a little off but i just wanted to share that i definitely experienced the worst depression i've ever had in my life... sucked. good luck.

But does the evidence point to the plummeting of T or the use of Clomid? If you use clomid properly in PCT will your T ever plummet, or will clomid allow your T to steadily drop back to normal level?

I don't PCT anymore but when I use to---Clomid put me through living hell. I remember sitting in my room with tears coming out and feeling like a worthless piece of shit for no reason. Clomid is the devils drug.

Changing hormonal levels can trigger depression/emotional swings. Think PMS.

PMS is treated pretty successfully with antidepressants. The SSRI's like celexa are good for this. If you have side effects from them (headaches and inorgasmia are common) then Welbutrin may be a better choice.

They just don't, since they don't mimic estrogen in the way that Clomid does in the brain.
Clomid can make you depressed or emotional when run solo, even if you aren't in PCT. Nolva might just give you libido issues, and I doubt Torem would have any negative sides.
