Giving Femara (Letrozole) to a 15 yr old teen?
Ok, I have a teen who is at the age of 15 and currently works very hard physically as well as mentally. I am aware of the harmful side effects of steroid use on teens and therefore I have talked with him about the dangers of using them at such a young age and that holding off till puberty is over is the best choice. So, hes staying away from steroids (at this age) but is trying to get cut for wrestling. Hes worked himself down to a good 10-9 percent body fat and weighs about 135-137. What he is currently trying to do is burn any fat (which he has seem to have done) or excess body weight, but due to the upcoming matches... he sees that there isnt enough given time to do so. What im thinking is that the weight hes got now is just water weight (water retention) and that burning it would take some time. I have read a few articles about Femara (Letrozole ) and how its used to take away most of the water retention and is good for cutting to the lean muscle. What I dont know is if it would be safe to give him at his age... and whether or not it would cause any harmful side effect if he takes it.
Whats your take on this guys?

No. It is not safe. Hes a 15 yr old boy. Your obviously no rocket scientist, so I would stay away from playing doctor with your offspring.

You could profoundly and permanently alter his endocrine system. I wish when I was 15 and engaging in competitive sports, my dad had come up to my room with a bottle of drugs he bought off the internet. NOT.

Ok what would be some ways to eliminate the existing water retention quickly? I know going natural is the best, but it would take time. Are there any other "safe" ways to eliminate water retention?

Do some research. Most water retention is diet related. I highly doubt your son is carrying a ton of water due to excess estrogen levels.
In all seriousness; if you came on here seriously considering giving your son letrozole you need to seek professional help. Not as an insult. In all seriousness that is well past normative behavior; its aberrant.Last edited by xelnaga; 11-26-2011 at 11:28 PM.

He and his teammates know how to cut weight. Wrestlers sweat their asses off for several days before a weigh-in.
No drugs required.
I wrestled in HS and a bit in college and could drop 10lbs of sweat the night before a weigh-in as a lightweight.

He probably took it home from his job at the lab. He certainly comes off as a rocket surgeon.

What does a couple if pounds in water weight really matter to a wrestler given the fact that he's 15?

Come on now! If your post is for real... what's going through your mind? Let kids be kids... and let them compete and have fun. Parents always trying to make their kids out to be more than what is real. Even to the point where you are going to start administrating anabolic steroids ? Sorry for the harsh response, but you really need to take a step back and think about what is important in life for you and your family.

Jesus and I thought I had seen everything...
Thanks for coming on the board and asking this question, I would really hate to think that a father was giving his kid letro to cut wieght for wrestling. Let him cut weight and train for wrestling in the conventional ways they are plenty hard on a kids developing body without throwing cancer drugs in the mix.
Remember when high school is over he has to live in his body for the rest of his life.

I`m thinking this is just some 15 year old kid posting this and if it's not that`s even worse. Taking powerful drugs that crush estrogen could cause huge issues.

I wrestled in high school and "cutting weight" (unless fat of course) during what should be a young man's greatest growth spurt and chance to shine should be illegal.......very destructive.
