What is the difference between TUDCA compared to the UDCA that ar-r sells?
-
07-05-2012, 01:09 PM #4
No difference, really. TUDCA is UDCA with a taurine amino acid attached to the UDCA molecule. Hence the name Tauroursodeoxycholic acid. It simply converts to UDCA when in your body.
There have been claims made that TUDCA is 'superior' to UDCA in bioavailability to the body, but this has never been proven in any studies or anything. In the end, they're the same damn thing.

I was wondering what the 'T' was.
I personally only use udca and am very grateful ar-r carries it.

I only use udca. It helps lower cholesterol too. Ar-r 's is 250mg a cap so I only take it twice a week while on cycle.

You should actually be using far more and far more frequently than that. At that frequency and dose, it's almost negligible.
You should take 500mg PER DAY for liver maintenance while on cycle. 1,000mg or more per day for liver repair if you have done lots of damage from heavy oral use and/or you have high liver enzyme readings from a blood test, etc. The medical studies done on UDCA/TUDCA on people with liver disorders were using 1,500 - 2,000mg per day for repair purposes.
See my liver thread for more information.

I've read otherwise. 500-1000mg/week was sufficient. I don't do orals.

What's the significance of taurine attached to it? Can't you just supplement taurine with udca?
-
07-06-2012, 08:51 AM #20
Supplementing taurine with it is NOT the same as it being tauroursodeoxycholic acid, where the taurine amino acid is actually chemically bonded to the ursodeoxycholic acid structure. That's like saying throwing wheels in the back of the trunk of your car is the same thing as driving with the wheels ON the car. As I mentioned prior, TUDCA is claimed to provide superior bioavailability over straight UDCA. But it hasn't been proven.
TUDCA is just a conjugate of UDCA. They are the exact same thing, they do the same job, they are reduced to the same stuff when processed in the GI tract.

EDIT:
From the first link:
Conclusions
After oral administration of TUDCA and UDCA, no significant differences in their absorption and in biliary bile acid secretion exist. Whether biliary enrichment with taurine conjugates of UDCA instead of glycine conjugates offers advantages in the treatment of cholestatic liver disease is unclear at present.
COnclusions: Low doses of TUDCA and UDCA protect Hep G2 cells from EtOH-induced cytotoxicity. However, TUDCA seems to be more effective than UDCA in reversing the damage.Last edited by Atomini; 07-06-2012 at 08:54 AM.

So what do I do with the powder .. How do I measure it out?
-

You need to answer my questions first before I can determine how to measure it. What does it say on the bottle?
Once again, you said you got it "in powder form, 5 grams". 5 grams per what? Scoop? Teaspoon? 5 grams in the whole container?
I can't tell you anything if I don't know what the bottle says about the concentration...

I just looked it up. I don't think you'll know until it arrives. The description on that thing doesn't say how many mg there are in a 'serving'. So, I have no clue here. You'll find out when you get it.
