IIhow do steroids magically add more weight
I dont get it. I thought the only thing that determines weight is calories in vs calories out....but if you take the same lerson and make them eat the same amount of calories as another person but add steroids ...that person will have put on more weight than the other...why is this?

You can not compare one person to another accurately because you can't account for genetics!

steroids improve protein synthesis which improves the muscle tissues ability to grow.
overly simplistic explanation. but at a very high level, it works....

That's plain english TR. Short and to the point! Well said!
Then add proper nutrition and killer workouts and progress can be made. The nutrition part is what hurts most people. New bodybuilders "think" they eat enough but really don't, limiting their gains. To take it one step further, there is a huge difference in intensity generated by a beginning BB'er and a seasoned hard core vet/pro. All facets of nutrition/training have to be working to make real gains.
I've always said bodybuilding is as physical as it is mental as it is scientific. And I'm not referring to AAS when I say scientific.

Actual explanation:
1) Much of that weight gain is just water. Either from estrogenic water retention in adipose tissue, or glycogen loading in muscle (glycogen is a large molecule and attracts water, drawing it into muscle cells). This is why we all look bigger on cycle, even if we haven't gained any actual muscle tissue.
2) Increased feed efficiency. Your body absorbs and utilizes more of those macros, rather than excreting them through urine or feces.
3) A lb of fat contains 3500 cals. A lb of lean muscle contains just 500-600 cals (remember that most of it is composed of water, and almost all the rest is protein at just 4 cals per gram).
So if you burn fat while adding muscle (recompositioning), you can gain weight without increasing caloric intake.Last edited by Bonaparte; 09-20-2012 at 10:31 PM.
