todays bodybuilders
I love how ppl say oh Arnold was old school and things have changed since then..but that doesn't mean for the better. I would take the lou's or Arnold's look over ronnie, jay, phil, dexter, or kai's look any day. They are massive I will give them that but I think they had it figured out back in the day as far as physique. Lol and what has changed? Have our bodies evolved? I'm pretty sure they're the same darn bodies God made thousands of years ago. Everyones bellies and midsections now days are all GH'S out and they look like bricks instead of the V. Just my two cents on bodybuilding these days. Just wondering what they will look like in 10-20 yrs. 400 pounds? I think they need to start going back to the old school look

Blame science
I am also a bigger fan of the physiques of the 60s/70s. I respect today's bodybuilders but the sport has certainly changed...evolved?.....for the better? That is based on opinions.....me personally, it has gone down hill.

Agreed...Zane, Arnold, Serge Nubret all these guys were big yet they emphasized proportion and definition. They focused on the aesthetic of the human body whereas today its really just who is the biggest freak.

No i was being sarcastic with how ppl saying that they have evolved. I agree its went downhill. Mad respect for ANY bodybuilder let alone those guys. And no I'm not advocating natural bodybuilding. I'd rather watch the wnba. But just saying is love to see someone come up and break the barrier and send us back to the past.

Why not advocate natural bodybuilding? What's wrong with that side of the sport? Those guys train their asses off and watch their diets hard. It's also a very competitive sport. Just because this is a steroids site, it doesn't mean you have to be against training naturally.
With all that said, I think today's bodybuilders look great. You can't honestly tell me you wouldn't kill to look like Heath or Coleman.

I wish the kids that come on here that are 18 and looking to cycle would actually start looking up to some of these natural body builders instead of that dead guy that we can't mention anymore. They'd end up with better self-discipline and overall a better physique in the long-run.

Today's guys are freaks, that's without a doubt, but back in Arnold's day they were freaks too. As bodybuilding has evolved the freakish level has too. It's like any sport or competition (whatever you want to call it) the game changes. Bodybuilding is supposed to be about obtaining a look that is beyond what the normal man can. As we've learned more about training and diet, and for that matter gear and that's the biggest factor, the gap between what the every day man can obtain and the bodybuilder has grown.
Also keep in mind this thread refers to bodybuilding and competitive bodybuilders. If these men had physiques that were closer to obtainable for the every day man it would have completely died out long ago. It succeeded in the Arnold era because it was a novelty, but it still didn't draw that much attention. The most attention bodybuilding has ever gotten in popular culture, actual competition was probably through the late 80's into the early 2000's and it has continued to dramatically regressed (support wise) since that time. IMO, this has more to do with the bodybuilding industry and the way it's handled by the people making the decisions.

Actually if you browse the IFBB website they have an entire class just for the guys who prefer the more classic image. It doesn't draw a lot of attention because that's not what brings in the money.
It's really no different than the modeling industry. Would you rather see another Marilyn Monroe or Bettie Page sporting the bikinis of today, or the augmented girls that do it today?
Just like with any industry you push what sells, it's just the way the world works.

I like to see the monsters and how far human body and genetics can get.
I mean, if I want to see aestethics, I look at fitness-models.

I beg to differ.
There are competing pro body builders in our day who have the old school look yet they manage to be freaks, meaning they present the best of two worlds. Frankly, these guys are everywhere and happen to compete at different weight classes. They often don't get enough attention because they don't have 60cm+ arms like Phil Heath does or quads that resemble South Korean highways like Jay Cutler's. Nonetheless, they are BY FAR more aesthetic than the rest, and definitely not natural.
They simply know how to take it easy on insulin , portion management, and by doing so, they are able to keep their ''core'' under control, unlike new age super-heavy weight freaks (Kai, Phil etc.) who desperately need a tummy-tuck once every couple of years.
Since I know for a fact that my point will not be understood completely, I will put up some pictures that simply and clearly define what I am trying to explain here. Enjoy

I prefer the classic physique as well. But, I don't have the genes to be like that, AAS or not. As far as my goals or "what I wanna be like" I think I'm a lot more likely to achieve the lean, fitness model look - someday...

genetics is everything.
Nowerdays I don't think an ectomorph will have any opportunity to enter mr olympia, even mesomoprhs may not win again, now its all about big meso/endomorphs, that can bring their genetics to the limit with every possible tool.
In the other hand, I don't think an Endomorph could ever be a winner fitness-model.

I didn't really read the whole thread, I have friends who competed in natural bodybuilding.. After the shower, back on the gear..and then go off of it in time to be clean for the show...
In all honesty, is there 100% natural bodybuilding? No supps at all? Where do you draw the line on a natural.. Im not trying to start nothing its just a legitimate question.

Well I guess its all in how one defines "natural" for the purposes of the shows I compete in natural is defined as 7years clear of any kind of aas ph diuretics etc. Far as supps go aminos and protein still seem very natural in my eyes... as far as people coming on the off to compete well that just doesn't seem quite fair in the natural game but just my opinion

This may have been addressed elsewhere on the board, however,
-What kind of gear did the bodybuilders of the 60's-70's
-Since anti-e's were pretty much non-existent, what did they do for PCT?
-The posing suits back then were bigger than speedo's...lol
