How to lower LDL, increase HDL cholesterol, and improve liver bloodwork for accutane?

Hey, so I already had bad acne before steroids , and now while on them, it is getting much worse, so my dermatologist finally prescribed me accutane. To make her prescribe it, I said I moved from different state and my doctor told me that I should find another dermatologist here. I had already been taking accutane that I bought from my friend who didn't need it anymore and I used 80mg a day. I came to doctor, went on a blood work and my LDL came out too high, HDL cholesterol too low, and my liver values were bad too, as it is usual with steroids. So what my doctor did was that he decreased the dose from 80mg to 40mg thinking that accutane caused these values and she said that she doesn't want me to have a heart attack. I don't want to confess to her about steroid usage but I want to improve my blood work because 40mg is simply not enough for a good cure. Is there anything that will help with cholesterol and liver? I heard milk thistle and Omega 3 are pretty good. Will they make significant difference though? Thanks!

Omega 3 is great. Be sure to take it with Vitamin E tocopherols to protect the fatty acids.

Milk thistle... you're better off taking empty gelatin capsules.

    .
    Really?

A study conducted in 2010 concluded, "Several pharmacological studies have been performed on the active components of MT, silymarin, and silibinin. These substances have hepatoprotective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antifibrotic properties; in addition, they stimulate protein biosynthesis and liver regeneration and have immunomodulatory activity. Here.

    Yet you're saying its useless?

Yes, garbage. Worthless granules that do nothing. Read the studies, not just worthless abstracts.

I think my doctor was mostly concerned with my cholesterol, so besides Milk Thistle I already have, I am going to buy Omega 3, NAC, Niacin, and Red Yeast Rice. Do you know how long it can take to show on the bloodwork?

Good. Check out the link I gave you. Kel outlines it with blood work.

    Sure and.. I did.

Perhaps you need to "read the full papers and not worthless abstracts".

It shows antioxidant effects, antifibrotic activity, protective effects against alcohol induced liver disease, improvements in those with viral hepatitis, longevity in those with liver cirrhosis, improvements in those with liver disease from diabetes as well as toxic and iotrogenic liver disease.

And finally, did you know some of Milk Thistles flavinoligans have a cancer chemopreventative effects? Silymaris works by modulating the imbalance of cell apoptosis and survival by interfering with cell regulators and the proteins involved in apoptosis. It also shows noninflammatory effects, antiangiogenic and antimetastic effects. It may also be used in liver cancer in the future.

    But you think it's worthless?

In order for MT to be even remotely effective it has to be taken in HUGE doses. Easier and more effective to use Nac

NAC is indeed effective, but MT doses don't have to be huge to see effects. 400-800mg every day is sufficient and most over the counter dietary supplements are dosed fairly high. 1,000mg every day can be used to lower AST and ALT levels.

Don't get your feelings hurt brother. It's worthless, and it will always be worthless. But you go ahead and chew on it for as long as you'd like. No one is upset with you

I would like to point out that more recent research is very much questioning is there is a problem with high cholesterol at all unless it have been oxidized. Personally I will never take a Statin or alike in my life.

    Thanks
