Hypothetical just for fun thread. Gear usage in a survival situation.
I don't if any of you have seen the show doomsday preppers? If not it's a show about people preparing for the apocalypse, stock piling food, ammo, weapons etc.
This got me thinking about gear and how it makes your body much more efficient in nutrient utilization.
I'm also pretty sure a lot of guys are well stocked with gear and pins etc.
How beneficial do you think it would be to use gear during some kind of survival situation so less food is needed and could keep you alive longer until you can find more food ?

Are you kidding? gear kicks up your metabolism big time, you would starve faster.

Exactly, when you’re on you need more food and you’ll be screwed faster. The real survivors will be those obese people of today, and the skinnyfats (due their low muscle mass and energy demand) the people that we laugh at.

The only benefit to steroids use in that kind of situation would be fighting.
fighting for the ressource of others
you are stronger faster therefore it gives you an edge.
However in Usa everyone got a gun so your muscle wont help you.

since we are talking theoretical, I would request that certain changes be made to my hypothalamus so that I can adjust my set point for the feed back loop for testosterone . Adjust that, and no need for exogeneous testosterone. of course, since we are still talking theoretical, then this adjustment to the hypothalamus would have no corresponding sides like raising bp, resting pulse rate, etc.

You are better off stockpiling guns and ammo then gear in the event of an "End of the World" scenario, or post apocalyptic survival.

As mentioned, steroids increase BMR, so you would need more food to not starve.
But yeah, I'd definitely keep all my Test U for HRT.

You guys are wrong. Anabolic steroids increase protein retention / nitrogen balance. Some of the earliest research into anabolic steroids investigated their use under simulated starvation conditions (and even in real-life starvation conditions). Those calorically-deprived subjects who received steroids like Dianabol lost the same amount of weight as those who didn't; but they retained more muscle.
The extra retained muscle could be advantageous. But like others have said, you'd probably have more important issues to worry about in an apocalyptic scenario.Last edited by Millard Baker; 01-18-2014 at 09:01 AM.

I will trade you 20ml of test for damn good crossbow and a couple quivers of arrows. I would much rather be a lean mean mother fu**er with a weapon than someone who is big and requires a shit ton of calories to maintain physique.
