I just hit 300lbs a few days ago 6 weeks into my first cycle. Currently sitting at 210lb, typically weight around 180lbs. Previous Bench PR was 275 @ 180lbs.
Really hoping I can get up to 325 by end of cycle and hold onto some of those PRs post-PCT.
I have a video, but I would like to remain anon.

I was 6'2" and 235lbs and repping 315 for 8... had a bad motocross accident and messed up my shoulder... I'm finally back in the gym and struggling to get 275 for 3. Everything that was light now seems heavy and it's killing my motivation... I'm going to have to do a ton of work just to get back to where I was... let alone make any new progress.

Just out of curiosity when you guys try for a PR do you just do a couple of warm up sets or do you do your normal set of sets as you ramp up to it? Just was wondering when I hear people talk about their PR.
I very seldom flat bench press with barbell the only time I have checked my max was at the end of a 5 sets and after some of my other workout.

I rarely try to max out as I am not really training for power lifting. But I usually do my normal warm up routine (rotator cuff movements, put 135 on the bar and do 2 sets of 20. Then I'll move up to a weight similar to what I would use for a feeler set... usually a somewhat heavy weight I can pretty easily do 8 reps with. Then I'll go for broke.

Warm up for me is
3 sets of 20 reps, 70lb dumbbells
1 set of 15 with 185 on bench
Then I go for 15 to 20 pounds under target for 1 rep. Depending on how that felt, determines if I shoot for the PR.
I LIVE AND BREATHE bench press.
Form is key nothing will happen unless you really get under it.
Watch the mark bell bench press video on YouTube.
Great break down of proper setup

I warm-up with lighter sets and peak up to my 1RM after about 3-4 sets. I keep reps low to not waste energy, but want a few sets just to get a feel for the heavier weights. A couple sets progressively heavier are usually a good indication of how well you will perform at your desired 1RM. Some days you don't have it, and you will probably know if you warm up properly and work up to what you're looking to lift.

yeahbuddy289, I do a non-challenging mini-PT on my labrums EOD. I read about how hard it is to get blood flow to cartilige and that's one of the reasons they're so hard to heal. Theory, little work EOD promotes blood flow to labrum area while not interfering with workout in afternoon.

Interesting... I do have a slight issue with the labrum and rotator cuff in my right shoulder that sometimes gives me trouble. But the main problem is I have separated the AC joint in both shoulders (in two different crashes) my left shoulder I did recently and I actually took care of it and let it heal and so far it has given me no trouble. My right one I did about 7 years ago and I was young and impatient and never gave it proper rest after the injury. It will flair up from time to time.

My PR from my last cycle is 335 for 3. I haven't done a 1RM for a while now. Ill give it a shot in a few weeks when Im back on cycle and Ill make sure to get it on video.
When I got that PR, I went from 135 for 20 to 225 for 15 and straight to 335 for the triple.

You guys got some impressive lifts going on there lets keep this going.BUT safety 1st guys lets not get hurt.

I hit 385 on Incline(though on smith machine) it was between 4-6 reps.... but it tore my shoulder up - hence why I can't use BB free weight and I rarely do flat bench... that was at 196.... and that was during my reg w/o pyramiding up to it(like Deisel was saying) I can't do 1RM maxes with my shoulder(need a total rev joint replacement)
But the heaviest the DBs went up to was 120s.... I'd also pyramid up then do 2 sets of 12+ then I'd start my HIT set - on The flat lying down hammer strength bench(not seated) I hit 425 for 3(4plates aside + a dime on each)
Recently did a PL mock meet and paused 315 for about 2seconds and that was easy - we had a judge and all.... it was fun first time I ever did that lol - not too bad hit 320 in HS, too

Lifting strictly for muscular hypertrophy, I can't press as much weight as when I was power lifting. Seeing the number on in this thread, I'm gonna have to train up for a 1RM. How about an additional stat? That's lbs lifted per body weight. So, take 1RM and divide it by your total body weight to get a 1RM:BW ratio. My theory is that lighter guys has a better 1RM:BW ratio then heavier guys.

You guys got my curiosity going so I had to try my max tonight.
135 for 20 reps,225 for 10, 275 for 5, 315 for 4,longer rest then 335 for 2 stopped after that.
Not completely happy with it but for a 46 year old man I probably shouldn't complain I guess.

Me neither lol..I don't touch bb it's to hard on my bad shoulder but I can get 120 db for 8-10 on incline..it's the biggest db in the gym so Iam kinda limited..
I don't really lift for power but a few times a month I will do heavy squats and deads just to know I can still do them..

Damn.
I wish I paid attention to my dad more when I was younger as a junior high school student
He was all natty 235, doing 405 for 8 reps in sets of 4
He maxed out at 505
Now he's damn near blind from graves in his mid 60s
.He was in his mid 40s doing the weight I mentioned 235, 5'10"
I wish are genetics were the same, I took more after my moms side.
My Sicilian 4'11" grandpa. Lol
50% Sicilian 50% Italian I am, so I'm pure, 150lb 5'6" Italian. That translates to 200lb 6'0" in regular peoples....lol

Animals. I hadn't done a one rep PR since I was in my twenties so my bro an I tried it last night. At 49 years of age I hit 285 clean but couldn't go over that. I'm 5'10" 185 and I'm on the juice right now. My bro hit 335. He is 5'6" 178. People in the gym were freaking out because it's mostly young guys who think they are strong. Not a lot of weight compared to you animals but it was a lot of fun. DOMS is not here yet but it's in the mail lol.

Gonna do squat PR tonight. That's my strongest area so I'm very curious to see how far I can get provided my back doesn't start objecting to standing there with 350 plus on my shoulders. Probably risky so imma pay attention to my body and avoid injury. PR not worth injury, learned that running marathons lol. Great thread.

You can get big, fast, with AAS. I think people forget that it takes a long time to get strong, even with AAS. It's not just the muscles that need to be strong but all of the supporting infrastructure like the bones, ligaments, and especially the tendons. Thus, the "old man" strength. My father-in-law, a farmer who worked hard his whole life, never lifted any weights in the gym. But he can pick up a 55 gallon drum of fuel and stack it two high. I've been lifting for over 40 years and I can't even come close to that level of strength. I hate him. LOL

After a back surgery, and my ortho doctor telling me I need to have scar tissue removed from both shoulders I can't bench a lot of weight. I have only gone over 200 once in the past few years. Seeing some of the numbers makes me want to train a little harder and get to 285. If I hit 285 that would be amazing.
This thread was a good idea songdog, I wont be posting any videos for a while, but before the years over I will give my best attempt. When I post it just remember I usually bench 135, and I up the intensity by using bands, and time under tension. This alows me to get some good work in with less weight.
