    Push fighting

I recently went to a death metal concert and noticed one guy in particular inside a mosh pit who was literally launching people 10 - 15 feet backwards just by pushing them. This guy wasnt big at all either, maybe 5'10 160lbs. Is there a technique involved when pushing someone like that? It was incredible watching this guy

Are you sure this was a death metal show and not a Chuck Norris seminar?

Ok then...did the guy who was pushing everyone look like Chuck Norris?

Seriously though, I had a teacher who was heavily into Tai Chi Chuan. It's a Chinese technique that looks more like dancing then martial arts but "supposedly" a person well trained in the techniques can do all sorts of stuff with there chi (energy).

Example; 10 people lined up in a row can't push a Tai Chi expert because he channels their pushing energy through his own body, into his legs and into the ground to "root" him. They can supposedly take this rooted energy, reroute it through his own body and push all 10 people back with ease too.

Honestly though.. I think all of that chi stuff is about 80% psycholgical and 20% bullshit. The "force" only exists in Starwars.

there is a technique i learned from a shaolin guy years ago called butterfly palms probably known by other names in other styles but it basically involves adopting a position of mechanical advantage from where it is possible to push someone seemingly vast distances the oponent must be caught off gaurd in a position of mechanical disadvatage to you for it to work properly, it looks spectacular when done properly, some will try and fob it off as and mystical mumbo jumbo, a chinese teacher told me once that they dont believe in mystical shit either just some europeans misinterpret the meaning of "chi"

any chinese here care to comment

eh...being a former guy who went to death concerts and did the same thing....for me...it came from speed balling and not moving aroudn so much. See in mosh pits some people start letting themselves get pushed around / off balance...and then there are others who just stand there and push people hard. Long as you have a solid base and other people don't... it's easy. And like i said...speedballing helped since it makes you not really feel any pain of someone ramming into you.

its all in the footwork bro, whenever im in a situation where someone may knock me off balance, i have my feet lined up in the correct way. it would be very embarrassing getting knocked over by a 110lb girl walking into you by accident, but it can happen to anybody, regardless of weight or strength

I can tell you I am a former MMA fighter (not pro or anything just amateur for fun) and worked out at UT (Univ of Tex) and we worked on grappling and different force moves and I am 6'1" 282 lbs right now and I have had 180 lb guys throw me around with ease. Back when I was training I was around 250 lbs and extremely strong in all directions, both pulling and pushing, etc. I think I was repping around 330 in the gym and who knows what my max was but it was over 400. It depends on footing, inertias, reflective skills, and a ton of other things that are so hard for me to explain because I just dont have good enough of a grasp on this material. When I was 250 and slammed if I had good footing I was able to push people back and down to the ground in any direction, while under and movement depending on so many circumstances. I am guessing you mean the guy in the mosh pit was pushing people backwards and they were walking to the rear or was he pushing them and they were in the air and landing at 12-15 feet? BEcause that is impossible. He might have been able to push a person to their rearwards but not push them 15 feet to the ground with any air involved. I can't even throw a guy 100 pounds lighter then I am more then 7 or 8 feet through the air, no counting total feet from where he lands after I push I am sure their could be 15 feet, but thats a different story.
