    modern weight cutting

what is the modern weight cutting method? UFC fighters are regularly weighing in at 20 - 25 pounds below their real fighting weight. they show up 24 hours later, rehydrated and at full strength. this is quite a transformation, and a huge edge in weight class sports. i can lose 15 no problem, but there are middleweights cutting 25 and not losing a step the next day. what is the modern method?

loop diuretics like lasix are probably too harsh, but what about aldactone? any diuretics that won't sap your strength? timing? dosages?

loading then cutting fluids and sodium?

    what do you guys do?

I like to show up about 5 pounds over run it off then weigh in and instantly start rehydrating. I also stop eating carbs about 2 days before it seems to up my urine output then I carbload after weight ins. Pretty much just modified from my wrestling days more refined and make me a better athlete

I don't think they're cutting all of it in water. I always start cutting solid weight by dieting a couple of months out- and so far I've just learned how to cut 10 lbs in water weight the last 24 hours before weigh ins. I think the bigger you are, the more water you can cut also.

Cutting carbs makes a huge difference, i lost a good amount of weight by doing so without training cause of my back injury, went from 204 to 183 in a month or so.

Imagine what i could have done with training and cardio

Cutting carbs does decrease weight... but it will decrease your intramuscular glycogen stores.
I suppose this is ok in the short term, but who wants there punches to pack less pop, and for a shorter period of time.

As far as cutting 25lbs (WOW) pre-fight to regain it in a 24hr, period... My guess is water...

However, I find it hard to imagine cutting 25lbs in water unless the person was already holding a ton...

I'll see what I can find out. and if it's 25lbs, YES. it's probably Lasix.

most guys get to vegas 2-4 days ahead around 12-15 over. I would say the last 5-10 is mostly water, but the weigh in a day ahead so not terrible time to rehydrate and reload on some carbs.
