I'd be more concerned with your cardio / stamina if you don't want to be too behind when you start.

Zimmy is right. Boxing is very cariovascular. If you have a punching bag you can do routines like:

    1. Do a 3 punch combo for 45 sec. continuosly. , then drop and do 20 push ups, then do 20 situps.

    2. or you can do the same thing with a 3 punch combo but do suicides in between the reps. Anything to get your heart rate up really good. You will be surprised on how tired your arms will get just from doing the combos.

you dont need any weights yet. get the boxing down first. im not sure you understood what he meant by combos. read it again. i will bet alll that i own against you doing combos with 15 lbs in your hand for 45 seconds.

45 seconds of throwing hard, accurate, perfect form punches with 15 lbs on each arm? been around boxing a long, long time and know plenty of world champions, even lived with one for a year, thats just not possible for a workout. for arguements sake lets say you could. even if you could keep it up for 45 seconds, you couldnt keep it up for 6 or 8 rounds wich is what you would need to do for the workout to do any good. try the workout as suggested also mix in a few days of 3 minute rounds on the bag with 30 second rests in between. do 3 or 4 rounds of that. you can try some wristweights if ya want but its not a good idea since slinging the extra weight puts alot of stress on the forearms not to mention breaking your hands when you connect. lots of jump rope and of course good old jogging is your best bet for boxing. dont forget push ups and plenty of ab work. add the lifting later as you feel the need but no bulking, just toning. best of luck to you.

IMO you should stay away from workouts that require a bag for now, so you don't end up punching away, cementing in poor habits.

so rue my friend. i've been really good with my bag sessions and jogging lately, but i'm just getting back into bjj, and after 4 5 minutes sparring sessions last week i had to quit. by the fourth one i had no strength left whatsoever and i was shaking because i had completely bonked.
