Please tell me this guy is on crack
http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles.asp?n_id=5971
This might piss off some of you good MMA fan, this guy is a real damn idiot.
This article basically says that Pride will have a hard time coming into an north american market and that UFC will remain on top for a very long time.
Saying that Pride looks a lot like a big circus and thats just not is cup of coffee.
THis guy is a writer for Sherdog can you imagine?
My point of view on this is that UFC is just a little candy to cure a small MMA urge and that the main course is Pride.
Lets damn face it Pride feels and looks a lot more like a real competition.
UFC PPV will give you the main card but if you wanna see the prelim fights you gotta buy the dvd cause you wont get them on your 39.99$ PPV cost, for me thats cheap has fukk.
Pride you get the whole damn thing for that same price.
I enjoy UFC on Spike TV cause its free, i never buy any of there PPV cause 95% of the card sucks.
Pride fights have more action, and so much more talent its not even comparable to what a cheap lame product UFC is.
Last Pride show had a lot of American fighters, they gave them a chance Robbie Lawler was there (Dont know why but he was quit impressive).
After all how can UFC ever match up with quality fighters like
Fedor Emilianko, Mirco CroCop, Wandy, Arona, Dan Henderson just to name a few.
To this lame ass idiot i gotta say Please wake up and face the thruth Pride is taking over any real MMA fan will jump real hard on that bandwagon.

The only thing i agree with is that Pride will need to secure a good TV deal here in the states, other than that Pride is well on it's way to kicking the UFC in the balls everytime they come to Vegas.
Pride is not a circus atmosphere, i don't know where he got that from?
All i know is that i had goosebumps when the opening ceremony started and the Pride theme started thumping.***No source checks!!!***

I am in agreement that the caliber of Pride is just on a much higher level than the UFCs. That being said, I tend to agree with the writer in that it will be difficult for Pride to penetrate the American market and succeed like the UFC does.
A am in complete agreement that Pride needs to secure a TV deal if they hope to make it to the level which Pride deserves to be at.
The circus atmosphere is an overstatement. It is much different production than UFC events and to the casual mma fan (which the UFC relies so much on) it comes accross as weird if you haven't seen Pride before....I mean, to be honest, I was damn surprised to find out the female ring announcer wasn't Japanese- they had me fooled for a couple of years. Also, the other ring announcer with his fake accent. Its just so different than what the UFC has made the norm here in the US (and Canada). People, who havent seen Pride before, need to get use to it.
Additionally, I think the Nevada rules take away a key aspect to Pride FC that adds yet another element to PRide vs. UFC. The stomps, knees, and kicks to downed opponents make for a lot of excitement- far much more than elbows in the UFC, which IMO are more dangerous and have the tendency to lead to earlu cut stoppages.
Anyways, it will be very interesting to see what Pride changes for their next show. True MMA fans will more frequently opt for Pride PPVs- like myself and most of those who have posted. But, we don't guarantee PRide success in the US like the true fans do for PRIDE in Japan. Pride will need to find a way to assimilate to the American market and allow its amazing talent and production take over even the causal fans.

Great post TR. Pride is put on in a "circus" atmosphere because it is what the Japanese expect. Having spent some time in Japan, and watching all their TV broadcasts you would understand.

Nice thread. Having lived in Japan for several years and attended a few Pride events, the Japanese do have strange ideas about entertainment. Several of the Japanese fighters, like Sakuraba, often come out wearing costumes or masks. Most Westerners find it laughable, but the Japanese eat it up. Doesn't seem to make a difference as most Japanese fighters get their asses beat. They find the whole "badass" thing to be very frightening and intimidating. Wandy scares the shit out of them.

Pride is top dog right now in my opinion. But the MMA fight game has been more popular in Japan than it has here for quite some time, so I am hoping the UFC will eventually come around and start holding TOURNAMENTS! again..
