Report: Belfort, Nastula Fail Post-Fight Drug Test
Thursday, October 26, 2006
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort (Pictures) and 1996 Olympic gold medalist judoka Pawel Nastula (Pictures) tested positive for banned substances after their defeats at PRIDE 32 “Real Deal,” reports MMAWeekly.com.
According to the report, the NSAC claims Belfort tested positive for 4-hydroxytestosterone, a anabolic known for its anti-estrogenic properties and short half-life, while the Polish grappler provided a sample tainted with nandrolone , a substance that is widely associated with false-positive tests results after consumption of beef from cattle treated with the steroid .***No source checks!!!***

....
I love how the first thing that is reported is how these substances were only used for non-performance enhancing reasons or how they came from an unknowing source. Just fess up when your caught.

what does it matter is they confess or not ...... they are condemned by the media as soon as their name is affiliated with "performance enhancing substances" ...whether they have or havent used ... you just did exactly that

More:
According to the report, the NSAC claims Belfort tested positive for 4-hydroxytestosterone, an anabolic agent known for its anti-estrogenic properties and short half-life. Meanwhile, the Polish grappler provided a sample tainted with nandrolone (commonly referred to as Deca Durabolin ) which is used for rapidly building muscle and enhancing recovery from injury.
PRIDE confirmed to Sherdog.com that of the 10 fighters tested following Saturday's card, only Belfort and Nastula came back positive. An official in PRIDE's American office declined to comment on the news without first speaking to Nobuyuki Sakakibara, CEO of PRIDE promoter Dream Stage Entertainment.
This marks the first time PRIDE-promoted fighters have officially tested positive for anabolic steroids . PRIDE, which is not overseen by any sanctioning or regulatory bodies in Japan, has not to this point mandated testing of performance-enhancing drugs for its Japanese events.
Belfort is no stranger to the drug testing policies of North American regulatory bodies. Having fought in five main events in Nevada and California, Belfort, at a minimum, has returned clean tests a handful of times. This past Saturday, the Brazilian lost by decision in a mid-card bout against American Dan Henderson.
For Nastula, who has no history of abusing performance-enhancing through his storied judo career, which includes Olympic gold in Atlanta, Saturday marked the first time he was tested by a regulatory body after a mixed martial arts contest.
Ironically, Nastula fell in Las Vegas to former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett, the first high-profile MMA casualty of Nevada's drug testing policy. Prior to his bout against Nastula, Barnett was required to provide a drug-free urinalysis so that the NSAC could license him to fight in the States for the first time since being suspended in 2002.
Barnett was also among the fighters — PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, Mark Coleman, Mauricio Rua, Kevin Randleman, Dan Henderson, Phil Baroni, and Yosuke Nishijima — who tested clean.
Belfort and Nastula join Kimo Leopoldo and Stephan Bonnar in a well known quartet of mixed martial artists caught, either pre- or post-fight, by regulatory bodies in 2006 with illegal performance-enhancers in their system.
The Brazilian and Polish fighters now face the possibility of suspension and/or fines by the NSAC.***No source checks!!!***

There are many OTC supplements that can trigger a positive test, i would not freak out just yet.
Marquardt was just in this situation recently in the UFC after his fight with Ivan Salavery, it was found that he mixed two or more OTC supplements and they triggered the NSAC test but was later dropped.***No source checks!!!***

Here is an article on the "steroid " that Vitor took from bodybuilding.com, while not illegal, it is banned by the NSAC:
The term prosteroid seems to have been coined by the supplement industry though it is actually accurate. A prosteroid is a legal (so far) hormone possessing significant activity in its current unaltered state. Some good examples of prosteroids are 1-Testosterone or (AKA 1-Test), 4-Hydroxytestosterone (AKA Testosterone-OH), 4-Hydroxyandrostenedione (AKA Formestane), 4-Hydroxynandrolone (AKA Nandrolone -OH) and the various esters and alkylations there of. These seem to be the prosteroids of greatest question, though they certainly are not new.***No source checks!!!***

MMA is getting a lot of bad press has it is no sense of getting even more with theses steroids crap.
I have all the respect in the world for MMA and would love to see it clean.
When i was younger back in 1988 i used to practice kyokushin and about 75% of the students who trained in the gym has well where on steroids.
They always came back empty handed after a competition.

I have used and noticed a HUGE difference in muscular endurance and speed, aswell as stamina...So much better without!! Lots of these reasions now are for injury healing and training recovery imo

Jeff Munson fights Tim Sylvia for the UFC heavyweight title on Nov 18th. If he is not GHed up I will kiss somebodies ass... 5'9'' 245lbs less than 10% body fat... natural my ass... hell of a fighter though.. I hope he breaks one of sylvia's arms..

we can always hope that sylvia trips and winds up on the ground at which point the fight is over even rhadi ferguson says monson is the worlds best on the ground... but i agree if it stays on the feet for more than a couple minutes its over. Monson is an experienced boxer he is just at too much of a reach disadvantage against sylvia's long limbs. I just really really can't stand tim sylvia.. He got busted for anabolic compounds and he still looks like shit which makes the rest of us look bad...
