Thumbs down How quick we are to destroy our idole (Matt Hugues)

I am still impressed to see how people turn there backs and jump into another bandwagon.

I am a french canadien and met GSP many times, he is a great person.

I keep seeing theses post about Hugues being this and that, but has anyone ever tought that Dana might have had something to do with this, i mean isnt it better when there is bad blood between 2 fighters doesnt it sell more tickets, ppv buys.

I ate to see shit like that cause it reminds me of WWE TNA crap wrestling.

Even GSP seemed uncomfortable when he confronted Hugues after is win with BJ Penn

I still respect Matt Hugues, he is not done and no one can over look is record.

He is still a great wrestler and a great MMA competitor.

Yeah he is cocky but isnt Tito Ortiz cocky too?

I enjoy the changes in champ and i know that Matt has said he wants to fight maybe 1-2 more times and then retire.

um... most of us disliked him before the fight...read some of the older posts. But if it makes you feel special to be the one " loyal fan" of gsp... knock yourself out :P

Sonar, on a completely unrelated note, did you by chance hear what Dana/Fertitta brothers said to GSP following the win?

I'm talking about the part where Dana is whispering something into Geroges' ear and Georges seems to be even more amazed than he was before...GSP starts saying something like "really?? oh god thank you, thank you". Anyways after replaying it a number of times I'm pretty sure it was along the lines of Georges defending the title in an event held in Montreal.

A buddy of mine says he heard the same thing. Either way, it would be great to have a solid PPV event like that here in Canada.

I dont understand why most of you hate hughes because he's "cocky." Thats there job, they all talk shit. Hughes is a legend and always will be. His career is far from over if ya ask me and you will all see him come back and kick some more ass.

I agree...judging a fighter based on his "personality/attitude" is a girly thing to do. This is not WWE, I could care less about drama and who's "mean" and who's "nice".

It's like sherdog where you got thousands of guys talking smack about fighters while hiding behind they're keyboards. They would never say these things to the fighter if it was face to face.

Matt Hughes was a great champ and was defeated by another great fighter. That's all it comes down to.

Yep every fighter looses at some point in his career and there really is no reason to talk so much crap about a great champion like hughes was (and will be again IMO).

I comepletely agree, its not that kind of cockiness/arrogence I seen a problem with. Its the "...Im getting my ass rocked but I wont do what Im good at, Im going to prove I can stand with this guy because Im Matt Hughes which means I win".. this is the kind of thing that I thought wasent right.

Cockiness, arrogence, ego etc is all well and good, you should think highly of your talents/skills so you can get up there and do your thing. But if your ego gets in the way of doing your job (which should be winning a fight) then thats when it makes you a bad fighter.

Hughes is an awesome fighter, I dont care how much someone hates him for personal reasons, it really cant be argued.

Hughes has become to confident in his stand up but he knows that he has to set up takedowns with strikes. What suprized me the most was he did not try to clinch more and control the distance and pace.

I think he was hurt from the jabs and the few shots in the beginning, he seems to lose it right after he takes a few shots. Same thing when he fought Penn (2), but Penn gased and GSP was just getting started.

i like hughes, but i really doubt it. i dont see hughes beating gsp or penn for that matter. the way i see it, the only way he is kick any a$$ is if they give him easier opponents.

By easier do you mean not arguably the number one and two ranked fighters? cause I don see 4-10 as being easy. Hughes would steam roll over every one except those two. Karo and deigo are good but hughes is better then deigo at everything and Karo well has a gas problem. so if by easy you mean not the top 2 then yeah he most likely would win all of them

i didnt mean easy fighters, i meant easier than hughes or penn. he could definately do some damage in the division which is a very tough division. i just dont think he is getting his title back as long as gsp or even penn has it.
