Gonzaga is one quick fighter, with a big body.
Mirko tried to land a few jabs, early on, but gonzaga blocked every single on of them.
Great defence.. and always was moving forward.
Mirko was way to obvious in trying to set him up for the kick. sort of a one dimesional fighter?
Gonzaga is no moron he knew this.
Mirko landed the kick to the midsection..
AGAIN THO GONZAGA IS SO FAST.
he grabbed his leg, and dropped him.
than Gonzaga did great with the Elbows.
Mirko defense showed he dont have nothing against a grabbed leg kick.
Mirko regained himself, but again was trying to set him up for one of his kicks.
ONE DIMESIONAL.
GONZAGA STRUCK FIRST!
MIRKO mistake #2
he did not pay attention to earlier in the 1st round.
Gonzaga took two kick swings at mirko..
one was at his mirko's shins..
the second one around midsection height,, he missed but it was a ferocious swipe..
Gonzaga showed knock out power in his legs..
Mirko shoudl had noted that..
cause Gonzaga completely caught him off guard with that High kick to the head..
LIGHTS OUT, FIGHT OVER.Last edited by Pooks; 04-21-2007 at 11:45 PM.

Yeah I saw it on Youtube, NUTS!!! I think fighters are getting so well rounded anymore that anyone has a chance against anyone on a given day!!! Only fight I could find was Mirko and Gonzaga. Any other good ones?

cro cop said he is retiring from politcs to rejoin the special forces, not retiring from the MMA world....

extremely disappointing, was good plan though, a hk from gonzaga was one of the last things that mirko along with anybody else would have expected. similiar to rashad evans throwing his hk on salmon. dana has to be pissed off, millions on the contract, hype him up like crazy then he loses to a relatively unknown fighter.

as a side note mirko was acting like a prick. didnt shake one fans hand and then made gonzaga look like a dumbass when he puts his gloves up to shake and mirko just stares at him and waits to be directed by ref to shake hands. was entertaining though

I wondered if that gave Gonzaga the idea for the high kick.
If Mirko is so looking up at the taller gonzaga, that he did not notice gonzaga lift his gloves the first time.. well than how could Mirko get a good look on a potential high kick from gonzaga.

cro cop did the same thing to Vanderla silva a while ago --high kick to head that knocked him out now same thing to him---you could tell he thought it was going to be a low kick
his leg still freaks me out I cannot believe that he didnt do major damage--we will probably hear of some done later

he should had fought gonzaga more like he fought Bob Sapp.
Keep moving around, and evading, and takin shots on the run..
No way gonzaga makes that kind of kick while on the run, but Mirko could.
and also when you are moving around, gonzaga would have had a much tougher time bringing him down, When charged for a take down Mirko knows how to toss people away. (josh barnett first fight, and others) Also no way Gonzaga catches mirkos leg, if he's moving and trying to get positioning right.
He completely underestimated and disrespected gonzaga as a fight, I'm sure he won't make the same mistake again.Last edited by Pooks; 04-22-2007 at 10:51 PM.

good points pooks
I think cro cop didnt think anyway he could lose and got careless

it was a shocker no doubt...but i wouldnt give gonzaga too much credit...hes not a better fighter than cro cop, he just had a good night, and cro cop was on the riciporicating end of it. obviously he proved he can be dangerous, but i think randy can take him.
but talk about a string of upsets..its ****in crazy...nothing was as ridiculous as st pierres demise tho...that shit made me sick to my stomache.
i actually missed the pay per view..i was in trail BC at a local MMA event..anyone happen to be there? there was a couple good knockouts

i agree. i think the problem was mirko was too arrogant to back down even a little or evade anything even if it was the smarter move. he wanted to come in relentless and get his quick ko. basically he wanted to do the same thing that happened with sanchez, which was full offense, which did work on him but it was bad plan with gonzaga. too much pride, not enough strategy.
im ready for the rematch

Wow, another crazy upset.
Its going to be interesting with the Couture fight. I honestly cant even make a prediction. I just dont know what to expect. Couture is one tough SOB but Gonzaga just knocked off one of the best fighters in MMA.

It seems as though cro cops biggest weakness is his arrogance. If you notice anytime he fights arrogantly against someone who he thinks he should win easily over, he winds up getting hit by something totally unexpected. IE: Gonzaga, Randleman, and in that one K1 fight of his against I think Mike Macdonald?

Dana White must be crying in his beer right now. His new superstar Mirko knocked out by a nobody.. Wanderlei knocked out twice in a row.. Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin both upset in recent months. All the big fighters keep getting defeated before he can set up big fights for $.

I think Dana might be a little discouraged, but crying in his beer, hardly. Did you see the Spike episode where he was training to fight Tito, Dude has a personal jet and all the money he will ever need so I dont think he's to distraut. Anyone has a chance on any given night, thats the scary thing about fighting, 1 move changes the whole fight.

Yeah, and he still has plenty of outstanding scenarios in pretty much each weight class. Having Randy on top as a HW is not a bad thing at all, especially in PPV sales. Then mix in AA, Nog, Gonzaga, CC (eventually), maybe even Herring. He's got good fights lined up for the next two years. Liddell/Rampage is big, with Evans, Bisping, and Machida waiting. Middleweight is a little weak but still not bad. Welterweight shapes up well with the possibility of GSP/Hughes III for the title. Lightweight is loaded. I'd say Dana is going to be just fine.
