Affliction II Card
I think this card is turning out better than the first already.
Main bout:
Barnett Vs. Arlovski
I like it better than Arlovski/Fedor deal that was in the works. Both fighters looked great on the first card, they both are on the come back also. Perfect fight to see who is the number 1 contender for Fedor.
There is a rumored bout between Tito and Babalu. That is a ground battle worth watching.
Vitor Belfort and Matt Lindland another rumored bout.
I like the ring style fights better than the cage. If Affliction keeps putting on shows like this, paying fighters good the way they do, and make money to operate in the process, UFC might be in trouble.

If vitor would stop breaking his hand he might be able to put on a pretty good show... maybe they should check the wrapping... I am still looking forward to vitor knock outs.

yup its all gonna come back to money.
This fantasy dream that Affliction is going to be paying fighters twice as much as UFC has to meet reality at some point.
It's already starting to happen. Affliction is trying to get the fighters for cheaper now, that's absurd!
One leverage they had over UFC is the promise they will treat their fighters better, they took that away of sorts by trying to now negotiate down the salaries.
I guess the only other leverage they got is, that the Affliction guy is not Dana White, and he will not cuss you out publicly if you refuse a deal with them.
Seriously though, it all comes back to money for most fighters, not whose got more manners the T-shirt guy or Dana.

It is what it is as far as if Affliction will last, i honestly dont think they will, despite what seems to be better pay and fighters in their Org. vs. UFC...
It kinda sucks... Either way ill be in the house.

I think with the people involved with the business side of Affliction, they will promote their events better and more also. MMA is growing fast, there is no reason a good promotion team cannot push MMA to the level of other sports or near.
The Yankee's pay people a Million a year to sit on the bench, yet the top fighters in the UFC are just now starting to make 500k a fight doing 2-3 fights a year at best.

UFC should move their headquaters to a tax-haven.
That way when they pay a fighter $50,000.. the fighter, agent, trainers, and others in his crew will actually have 50k to split between themselves instead of like 35k after the gov;s take their cuts :-D

The 2nd show should be solid as well but I feel like the Belfort v. Lindland is a waste. They could markter the piss out of Belfort against sub par to middle of the road fighters but Lindland is a terrible match up that will grind out a boring decision win.

Lindland is a top 10 MW on everyones list. Belfort looks alright at 185, and for now, this is the best MW fight they could do. It could be worse.
And yeah, it will be a grind, and Lindland will probably take it, Vitor has never done well against world class wrestlers.

Get rid of the ring? Are you crazy? Let me guess your a wrestling fan? The cage rewards control over skill. Yes Lindland will probably maul Vitor but we can hope for Belfort circa 1995 right?

never seen vitor get mauled in any of his fights win or loss. Never even seen him get dominated...just the ol, lay around and not do a whole lot... or stand around clinch and not do a whole lot, but never seen anyone maul him.. so whether he loses or wins, i doubt he will get mauled.

I also read that Vitor was knocking Anderson Silva around when they were in camp training together at black belt....he is stepping down to MW, so maybe he smells blood around allt he silva hype.

Vitor definately has the tools the compete with Anderson but in all honesty I seeing the mental aspect being a huge hurdle for him as is always seems to be. You have never seen Vitor mauled? Apparently you missed the Coture fights. I agree that Tito layed and prayed his way to a rather questionable decision but Randy but the hurt on Vitor, twice. If Vitor could pull something out of his bag of tricks against Lindland I would be a happy man but love Lindland or hate him he is just flat out tough. If Lindland were to fight Anderson in the near future I would be hard pressed not to put money on him if he came in with a solid gameplan. Henderson would also be another one of those guys that if given another shot at Anderson could probably give him a good run for his money. Hendo just differs from Lindland because he has those amazing heavy hands that he loves to throw. The first round of the Silva fight Dan fought smart and controlled the fight. The second round he decided to stand and paid the price.....

controlling your opponent does take skill, and the restarts every 15 seconds are not only annoying as hell, but you can't expect each fighter to have the same exact things going when they stop and restart them. let's face it, pride was the best in it's heyday, but you can't say that every single thing they did was perfect just because they did it best.

Yeah like False said, Randy pounded him out... Of course im not sure what hes talking about when he said Tito LnP a win, it was a seriously competitive fight. It was close, but in the end Tito did win the fight. Same thing with his fights with Overeem. The first time Vitor was doing a good job but wasnt dominating and ended up gettin caught. The second time Alistair beat him for most of the fight to earn a victory.
As far as Vitor and Anderson ever fighting, it wont happen. Silva doesnt fight his friends, hes already said he wouldnt fight Paulo Filho, who i think is the #2 ranked 185er in the world. And he also said he wouldnt fight Machida as well.
I dont see Lindland beatin AS either, he is a better wrestler than Hendo, but Hendo is better well rounded, like he said, hes got those very heavy hands.Last edited by WARMachine; 08-15-2008 at 12:17 PM.
