Thumbs up Kenpo karate how cool is it?

I dont care about the not being effective in a street fight or in the real world.

I just want to know if its cool to practice.

I am doing kickboxing right now at a kenpo school under Nick Ciero teaching.

How much sparring is there in kenpo, time spent on learning forms (Which i dont really like).

I saw some pertty cool techics to.

    Thanks guys

Are you talking about Ed Parker's Kenpo? Or Kenpō ( which is translated into Kempo)? They are two very different things.. Ive only ever trained in Kempo. It is quite cool... I rather enjoy it, granted not all things learned will translate into an actual fight, but, it is pretty fun...

There is a substantial amount of sparring in Kempo, which is something i look for... Unfortuenatly, due to the lack of overall help in translating what i was learning into an actual fight, i stopped pracitcing.

Since then ive focused my standup primarily on Muay Thai and boxing... Ive had 8 professional matches at 79kg (LHW175lbs) and have a record of 7-1 w/ 5KO's... Im acutally going back to Thailand in Oct. to brush up on my skills, due to me being inactive from traditional Muay Thai for 3years...

I wish you luck in your fighting career try to get some fights on youtube, the one you posted the other didnt work, i really wanted to see that spinning knock out kick.

I guess its ed parker kenpo, around here it really sucks because i dont have muay thai or MMA. I only have traditional arts like Judo, Aikido, tae kwon do WTF, shotokan.

This is why i am training in kickboxing right now.

I did some boxing in 1998, kyokushin when younger, also judo, shotokan, tae kwon do, and now kickboxing.

First of all Kenpo and Kempo are the EXACT same thing just different translations, one from China and one from Japan. MOST Kenpo practiced here in the mainland is Ed Parker's American Kenpo. There are offshoots of that and other's like. CHA3 Kenpo/which I practice/teach. www.cha3kenpo.com This style concentrates on REAL life self-defense and less on "forms" with sparring. But if you think sparring is the way a real fight goes, think again.

Kenpo can do that too, but probably not as much as bjj or muay tai will.

By sure that if Muay Thai would be around here i would be there right now, where i used to live my MMA teacher class where mostly base on Muay thai, i lost so much weight doing this 4 times per week, it was just crazy.

Now i am doing traditional kickboxing, no knees, no leg kicks, it was quit hard when i first step into the ring to spar not the leg kick, and the thai clinch......

Before I started training BJJ full time I trained in a traditional martial art for 3 years. Not all of the stuff was good to carry out in the street, but it was fun as hell. It got me in decent shape, helped with flexibility and was just plain fun. I worked with swords, nunchakus, bo's and other weapons as well. I used to really enjoy and look forward to the classes, but I wanted to get into more grappling. It depends on what you want and what you are looking for. If you want some cardio and increased flexibility there is nothing wrong with Karate.

By the way, Judo may be a traditional martial art, but that doesn't mean it isn't good stuff. A good Judoka is a dangerous guy. Try getting thrown full force on the pavement. Most likely the fight will end quickly; no need to go to the ground, which is not a good idea anyway on the street, and you won't have to go 5 rounds with a guy slugging it out.

Well like i said i want to have fun, i got into a few street fights younger, i am much older now and wiser i guess.

If i need to fight again i will not rely on martial arts because i dont think you can get an edge depending on where you are, last time i was 25 and on a dance floor a guy hit me in the groin and started laughing, i hit him in the face twice, actually broke my hand....

Kenpo looks really cool and the techics really fast
