ADCC to hold Gi!!!
"We are proud to anounce in first hand the ABU DHABI BJJ PRO CHAMPIONSHIPS.
This event consists in a GI tournament on the same way that the NO GI Abu Dhabi happens.
The Sheik decided to do a milionaire GI tournament as well and give US$15,000 prize money for each GI division in an event to happen every 1 or 2 years starting on April 2009 (CONFIRMED).
There will be trials all around the world divided in regions as the NO GI event.
South America, North America, Europe, Oceania, Asia and Middle East.
The 5 champions from each trial region will have tkt and accommodation paid to fly to Abu Dhabi in April 2009 to fight for the $.
The divisions are every 10kg from 65kg.
Under 65, 65-75, 75-85, 85-95, over 95kg.
The fighters will be mixed between purple, brown and black belts with the gi in the weight divisions.
Rules will be BJJ International rules and black belt rules will be used (knee bars and full foot locks allowed, no heel hooks).

The Oceania trials will be in Sydney on February 8th 2009 at the Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre(CONFIRMED) and entry forms will be available soon.

This is big news guys.. I failed to qualify last time for NO-Gi, but this time ill have two chances!
Anyway else planning to compete?
For that matter, anyone else have a belt higher than a blue?

I have a brown belt through Team Machado out of Las Vegas been training for 12 years relocated to Florida about four years ago working with Gracie Team Tampa but for the last year been in Iraq.

Yes Mica did give me my brown belt. As far as my black belt I guess i could have it by now just never went for it and been a lot of up and downs with injuries and time off i was going to get back into it when i get back but blow out my shoulder bench pressing. Trust me I have put down my several of Team Tampa's black belts and being a Mica brown belt makes me feel good. so when i do get back I will go back to Mica and get my black belt and not through Team Tampa.

I just noticed the last part of the question. Rob. he is a good guy and i will not say anything bad about Team Tampa and i will leave it at that. Rob has some real good fighters.
