Matt vs. Matt
Has anyone heard any news regarding this match-up. I know it has lost a lot of its luster but I think that it will be a hell of a grudge match. Neither is at the top of their game these days but both are extremely tough and hate one another. Serra is notoriously tough win lose or draw but I have to give the edge to Hughes just on his legendary status. Hughes definately has better wrestling and Serra the better Jits and stand up. Is anyone else excited to see this fight and who do you think takes it?

Its suppossed to happen in April 09'.
Though nothing has been confirmed...
I think its an interesting match up. I think Serra's best chance to beat Hughes is now. 2 years ago, this wouldnt have even been considered.
I think Hughes takes it, and walks outta the sport.
I think the minute after he retires, he should be inducted in the HOF!

That's exactly what's going to happen WAR !

I think he walks as well but I don't see him finishing Serra. I would love so one of them win convincingly

I think Mat wil finish Serra first round. Serra has nothing to offer Mat and yes he should be in the HOF.

Nothing to offer? Serra is annoying but the guy is tough. He has world class jits and heavy hands. On paper Hughes should win but by no means it is a gimme. I am excited to see the fight and all the smack talk leading up to it.
-
12-13-2008, 11:57 PM #8Serra farred much better with GSP then Hughes has.....wait even tko'd him for the belt !! LI tough guy by TKO !!
I dont think Serra will sub him. Hughes has WAY underrated submissions...
And i think Serra has better punching power, but that doesnt mean better stand up..
Like i said before, interesting fight. 2 years ago, not so much...

Second time would be a charm. God that would tarnish the Hughes legacy

^^ There is nothing that can happen to tarish his repuatation... Hughes is a legend reguardless of what happens...

No doubt, but how many common fans would keep that as their last memory of Hughes. Not many current fans were there for the Trigg fights or the Newton ones for that matter. Along those lines how many chumps view Royce as some puss who got handled by Hughes. I am not saying that its right or that I agree with it but that is how it tends to go these days. Just look at all the Chuck hate since his last few losses. "Oh he was never that good, just lucky." OR "He never fought anyone"! What a joke I feel bad for the fighters

Thats the way the fans are... We love em, but at the same time... You know...
They'll turn their back on you just as fast as they jumped on the bandwagon.
It is what it is though bro...

No doubt but still no one has to like it. I just think that fighters deserve better.

I agree... But the way that the UFC is marketing MMA now, you know the whole MTV thing...
I think itll be some dark days for the old school fighters, as well as the hardcore fans...

Hughes is undeniably a legend and a bad mofo. Maybe he can't beat Alves and GSP or BJ for that matter but he still would dominate the majority of that division. Its not like he turned into Shamrock. I would love to see him fight Kos after Serra

Hughes is a bad mofo forsure and deserves his place in the hall of fame, but dont count a competetor like him out...Randy has come back from the dead a few times, maybe matt's next..u just never know

Randy did it against the heavys and I think that was the key. These guys at 170 are just insane. They are so athletic and so talented that the old guard just can't compete.

In all honesty you are probably right but am I the only one that would love to see these fights? I think Fitch beats him for sure and Kos and Diego are very close fights. His stand up is terrible though, you are correct

Lawler yes that would be great even a riggs rematch.

The Robbie knock out of Trigg was one of the most brutal i have ever seen. I like how he put an exclamation point on that one. I am a Riggs fan but Hughes beats him now and forever.
You can call him one dimensional but there has never been a better one dimensional fighter than him. Not Royce at Jits and not Mirko at Striking. He has had an amazing run. That being said i think that he is a total dick.
