Shogun vs Chuckles
well the UFC just announced this fight. What do you guys think? I think Chuck has a chance to save some face and bounce back by beating a big name. I think Dana gave Chuck this fight for that very reason. I think it will be a good test for Shogun and his cardio. As much as it hurts to say I think Chuck goes old school and gets the KO
-
Chuck, I dont know about him anymore. To get KO'd like he did against Evans, I just dont know what to think....LOL

I am a huge Shogun fan but he has looked terrible in the cage. Hopefully this gets his back on his game but I still see Chuck taking it.

truly not sure who to pick, watching shogun in is last fight was just a huge disappointment! I hope that shogun gets his cardio back up and performs to his true ability, and if not i see chuck winning with a brutal knockout.

Chuck via KO. Shogun was seconds away from a loss or draw with coleman.

I just hope we see the old shogun in this fight

I would have to go with shogun but wouldnt mind if chuck pulled it out

Not really but unless Shogun of old returns quick he is in serious trouble of going to sleep and losing his spot on the roster

One thing about Chuck Liddel is that he never gased in a fight, that is a big plus for the guy and yes he has a huge chance of beating Shogun.
Chuck has to prove a lot more then Shogun right now because he lost is title, and had a terrible 2008.
Has for Shogun well i really dont know, he was so amazing in Pride but is 2 appearence in UFC made him look like a beginner.
First fight he was injured so i will give him that but for the Coleman fight he was in great shape and even said he was cleared to fight so there is no excuse there.

I think he gassed becasue he was so scared of Coleman's stand up

Chuck cardio is good but have we really seen it when he was winning it would not go past the 3rd round. When chuck started loosing it still did not go in the later round if my memory is correct.....

If the same Shogun that fought Forrest and Coleman comes in than I think Chuck will TKO him in the 2nd. If the Shogun that beat Lil Nog in a war comes in, than I think he will take it.
I think Shogun should hook back up wit Wandy and go to his strenght and conditioning coach.

...
Im sure it will be a great looking fight, but Im kind of dissapointed that this will pretty much garauntee we dont see that Silva vs Liddel fight I was hoping for...

i WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT LIDDELL VS. SILVA FIGHT BUT AS MORE TIME PASSES I BELIEVE THAT LIDDELL WOULD GET WRECKED
-
01-20-2009, 10:21 PM #18
I agree with you bro he would get wrecked
-
01-20-2009, 11:03 PM #19
as big of a draw as that would be I think Dana might look out for his boy and avoid making that match up
-
01-20-2009, 11:08 PM #20
so who's left @ 205 for Liddell? Most think he is in the twilight of his career. Who does dana put him in with to milk a little cash before he has to find another poster boy?
PS- not my intention to insult Chuck. Great fighter, a real mans fighter. I just think the game has gone beyond what he brings to the table

A retirement match against Wandy would be my guess. That fight will always sell

It's probably just me, but I'm getting tired of seeing Chuck and Wandy fight each other. It seems the UFC are continuing to recycle the same fighters even though their skills are diminishing. Its kinda like watching Mickey Ward vs. Arturo Gatti fight 5-6 times. Share they are exciting fights but its more like watching a demolish derby rather than skilled combatants.

^^^ I want to tell you to go to hell but i think you are on to something. The thing about them both though is that even though they are on the way out the are both very dangerous and could hurt one of the more marketable up and comers if given the chance. This way at least they just hurt each other

Its the kind of fight you put as a sub-main event when the rest of the card is lagging so people say "you see that liddell/Silva II, man those guys are tough" for weeks afterwards.

it hurts to see Wand relegated to a mid card throw away fight.

The only thing with Chuck is he still has that one shot ending power. Always makes it kinda interesting. Oddly enough he has been beaten at his own game lately ...not since Couture has someone pulled the dominant different style (couture it was ground and pound)and beat him. If he would not drop his hand ....well lets just say his chances of winning would dramatically increase !

and if he would run once or twice a week. He looks crappier than usual these days

I don't think Shogun can win honestly.
Chuck is long, and has open stand up. Shogun's standup is pretty open also though. I don't think shogun could out strike chuck. He's out struck people, and at one point was super agressive, but only when he was not in danger.
I think Shogun gasses trying to take Chuck down after loosing the stand up. Chuck Sprawls, scrambles and picks his shots.
I find it amazing that Shogun was so dominate in pride. I know he broke pages' rib right into the fight, but look how dominate he was over him. Even in round 1, vs Coleman, he was not impressive even before he gassed.
he had 3 months to train, he's 27 years old. Cardio at 27 and 3 months of serious training, he should not gas that fast. He's a good natural athlete too, and is strong for his size.
I have to throw this out there, but him and Wandy had to be on somthing in the pride days, They went from brutal monsters, agressive and so strong to tame conservitive fighters loosing their matches.

Wand is definately not the same fighter but one thing i can promise you is that he will never be "tame and conservative". He might lose his next 10 fights but that man comes looking to destroy.

I was watching some pride dvds and noticed a few things about shogun now that his hype has died down. Shogun was out for a long time becouse of that awful elbow injury that occured as Coleman. He has also been having terrible knee problems. He took so many shots to the knees when he was standing over opponents trying to lay down bombs on them. His muay thai well crisper then Wands is deffiantly not better. His brazilian jui jitsu is very solid and he is a decent wrestler. But so much aclaim on his muay thai and really re watch some of his fights its not overly impressive. I know he dismantled Rampage but watch the fight something just doesn't seem right at all even the stance and body language of Page is off. He was outstruck by nakumura so he put on a bjj clinic against a journeymen and that fight was far from impressive. I think alot of his domination in pride had two do with one thing using the rule of allowed soccor kicks and stomps to his full advantage. I am not saying there is anything wrong with this but he won a majority of fights using them. It was like when the headbutt was taking away from Kerr it changed him. Now coming in against Forrest had he not been as hyped as he was most people would say he looked good for the most part. His fight against coleman was so-so in my opinion. I really think us as mma fans looked at his brutatility and forgot to really evalute him before giving him the title as the next president of chute box
