First Fight/Fight Prep
Hi all, i have been training my ass off for the last 18 months as I really wanted to try MMA fighting. i set myself a goal of being "fighting fit" and conditioned by my 36th birthday which is this Monday. i have lost 34.6 kilos to date(following strict diet and training plans from the feedback from the legends of this website) and have a new lease on life, it has literally changed my life entirely.
I have been mixing it up with 6 sessions of fight training per week (2 bjj clases, 2 kickboxing classes and 2 ground and pound classes) plus at least 3 conditioning sessions per week and 2 weight sessions per week and i roll and spar whenever i can around my training sessions. between the physical training/conditioning and the diet side of things i think i have done everything possible to get me ready (bloodwork is spot on as well).
What i am really interested in is the mental side of it now as i want to cover all bases. i dont want any nerves, or fear (yep i admit i will be scared for my first fight) to affect my performance and and let the people down who have put so much time into me and let myself down from the commitment i have put in as i have given it evrything. i knw it sounds like a weird question to ask but do any of you experienced guys have any tips or feedback on this sort of stuff.
Thanks in advance for your help

hard not to get nervous, just try to focus on channeling your nerves and make it work for you.

I think the nerves are inevitable. But congrats on getting back in shape and best of luck

Expect to get 10X more nervous when they call you name in the middle of the ring. That lasts till the bell rings and you start walking towards each other. By time you engage each other the nerves are gone, especially after you get hit.
Good luck, first fight jitters are the worst, for me they are still there at every competition. My one piece of advice is not to let the nerves make you run across the ring looking for a quick knockout. Learning to get use to the ring dimensions and maintaining proper footwork will be invaluable. If your opponent is experinced and knows you are not, he may make you chase him which will cause you to engage him straight on. Avoid this unless you are looking for takedowns.
Hopefully this helps, but you wont remember most of this once you step into the ring. Experience will make you your best.
Congrats on the life change.

Thanks KP.
I just saw a fight show last week and thats exactly what happened, I saw some guy on debut who was in much better physical condition than the more experienced guy he was fighting and he rushed him and was out cold in 12 seconds. As they were calling the guys names out to come to the ring and the music and lights started i got so pumped just picturing what it would be like coming out to all your family and friends and everyone from the fight gym supporting you. my adrenaline was pumping just taking it all in. I can imagine i will be edgy the whole day leading up to the fight lol, but still its all a learning experience and i can only do what i can do.
A life change is exactly what it has been, gone from a size 40 jeans to a 32 (aussie sizes) and my strength and fitness is better than i have ever been in my life. The kids and especially the mrs loves it lol.
Ill keep you all updated as it gets closer to the time.
Thanks

Like everyone else said nerves are inevitable, but just think, that guy wants to fuc you up, so over ride that nervousness with anger. Good luck.

Ill be fighting at 93 kg's. Been working hard on my explosive power and my conditioning is going really good. Its a paid fight show so i guess that means professional. I have been doing what you guys have been saying and thinking about it heaps through training sessions, first thing in the morning lol all the time. I jsut know that if i dont do it ill regret it forever i have always dreamt of being in good enough shape to do it and really test myself to see what i am made of. With the ground stuff i am doing now, i am overpowering most of the guys at my weight class (maybe because my body was used to carrying around 128 kg's lol) and feeling more relaxed each session. It's my birthday today and i feel ready to go. The fight wont be until mid to late May so ill be at 93kg's this week and change diet to a more maintennance one and hold that while working on harder conditioning and power.
Thanks for all the advice guys
