About to start a martial art
I'm 31 and I was recently injured badly (broke my hip). I felt very comfortable being able to defend myself before the injury, but i think i need to know a martial art now. I have it narrowed down to this. It's an adult only school and i think it has some great ideas.
In the FAQ section it says that it is mostly a stand up martial art but teaches basic grapping with eye gouging and neck breaking and ect to end the fight as quickly as possible so you avoid getting injured. Let me know what yall think.

No offense to anyone here but, thats some Bullshit with a capital B.
I dont need anyone to teach me how to poke someone in the eye, or grab their balls.
Basic grappling my ass. These guys are just trying to capitalize on MMA's growing popularity. There is no legitimate grappling from what i can see.
Go ahead and waste your money.
If you want to learn to 'streetfight' and kick people in the balls, at least try Krav Maga. But not this shit.
I think any self respecting MAN that pulls this shit, should be stoned in a public square.
BJJ is fantasic for real life combat situations. Muay Thai for standup w/ western boxing.
Remember, 95% of physical altercations end up on the ground. 99% start on the feet, and 100% can be avoided.

04-15-2009, 07:33 AM #3Things like: eye gouging, fish hooking, head butting, hair pulling, face shredding, palm heel strikes, ripping off an ear, biting, pinching, finger locks to pull off a choke or lock, strikes to the middle of the throat, neck cranks/breaks, kicking and stomping a person who’s down, joint and limb destruction, groin strikes, knees and elbows to a persons spine, knee destruction, throwing people so they land on their head or face down, etc. Several of these things WILL END the grappling game fairly quick, if you have enough speed and skill to pull-them-off.

Thanks for the feedback.
Your sig does not work in my case....I can not physically run anymore. 100% can not be avoided in my case.

"Many of our students are in their 30’s and 40’s. They want to learn how to quickly end a real confrontation against someone younger and stronger. They have little interest in attempting to be successful with the sport aspect of grappling in the street! In my opinion, the UFC has wrongly brainwashed the public into thinking what they see done in the ring is the way it will "go down" in the street. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to roll around in the street for 20 minutes, constantly reversing positions and tiring myself out, with some sweaty smelly guy that’s heavier and on top of me!"Last edited by jdog55; 04-15-2009 at 10:15 AM.

Yeah, what is "fish hooking".

Ever caught a fish?
Same thing. Instead of a hook, you use your fingers and pull them on the sides of your opponants mouth and attempt to rip his mouth open wide.

Carry a knife or a gun if you feel you need to defend yourself.
Live in a bad neighborhood?

Knife and or gun is a great idea...
remember this is not 1970 or 1980 anymore, if someone steps up on you and wants to do damage more then likey they have a gun or a knife. I have training inn martial arts for over 20 years and it is great but if someone get the drop on you it is over even if you have a gun or knife....it is best to not put yourself in the situation...

Just an FYI to those on the post. The reason I liked it to begin with is that the only reason I would even be in a fight is if a bum or someone mugged/robbed me and my girl in the city.
I feel less able to defend myself since the hip surgery. I am not not a highchooler thinking of using it against my peers.
The only reason I want to learn is to defend against someone trying to rob or kill me

I am injured myself back and neck pain with snapping hip joint, prolotherapy is fixing me up real good, my sport doctor told me to find a martial art that i would love and i guess that is the best advise out there.
With a broken hip i am not sure what you can and cannot do, remember that in grappling there is a lot of takedowns and falls and more.
Stand up fighting uses the hip a lot too when you kick. And sorry to say but that school you posted the link looks a bit in for the $$$$$
Make sure to strengthen your core muscles because they will be your foundation to prevent getting injured again.
Good luck in your search, i am looking into aki jiujitsu and if someone in the streets wants to fight with me, i guess i will fight like a red neck LOL fist will fly.

Actually SEALs take courses in CQD developed by Duane Dieter and they supplement that with other types of martial arts involving grappling, like BJJ, aikido, judo, etc. The martial arts involving punching and kicking (other than straight punches/kicks) aren't as effective in a close quarters environment, especially on a ship. SEALs will transition from their primary weapon to their secondary and engage the target as the distance dictates. For a SEAL to allow the enemy within arm's length and be involved in hand-to-hand fighting indicates that something has gone terribly wrong.
Duane appears briefly on this video and you can see my former Master Chief, Dennis "Snake" Chaulker at around 2:04.
