Thoughts on UFC 97
Interesting night....my boy Chuck got dropped again even though he was winning the fight...depressing. Silva has another boring fight, only because Thales Leites was fighting like a bitch. Since Leites couldn't bring/keep Silva on the ground and had no chance standing up with him, he went to the pussiest tactic ever of falling over on every chance and hoping Silva would tried to come to the ground with him....ridiculous. Showed how damn good Silva is though, Silva didn't even keep his hands up for practically the entire fight and even taunted Leites with his chin and the best part was Leites knew better than to even try! I don't think Silva should get bashed for the fight like he has been, hes there to win and hes not gonna risk going to the ground with one of the best brazilin jui jitsu black belts in the world just to entertain...he had no reason to the fight was in the bag.

How was Chuck winning the fight??
In the main event both fighters are at fault. Thales was obviously scared to stand, but he should have attempted more take downs or atleast try and pull gaurd. He was just falling. As for Anderson he was showing no aggression. Throwing the side kick to the knee every couple minutes was about all he was doin.

^^^good question. Chuck was definately not winning that fight. His take down might have kept the round close but he got taken down once, shogun attempted a sub, and was winning the stand up exchanges. Shogun looked great to me.

I blame the UFC more than Thales. He did not belong in that fight. He'll Marquardt beat the shit out of him and should won that fight even with the two penalty points deducted. Is anyone all that suprised that the fight was boring and predictable?

^^^ Ya thats a good point. I was also wondering this wen they annouced the fight. I was excpecting a Yushin vs Anderson 2, or another match at 205lb.

Yushin deserves the fight more than anyone and I assume Maia is next. Some are pushing for Nate Marquardt but I don't buy it. I saw the first fight and it was a stomping. I believe Hendo deserves a rematch because although he lost as well he dominated the first round and showed he has what it takes to beat or at the very least compete with the likes of Silva.

I am not sure what makes sense for Silva at 205. I feel like they do not want to give him a fight he could lose. We know he won't fight Machida, Jackson's busy, Forrest is busy, Evans is busy, who else? Houston Alexander? Jardine? Cane?

Watching the fight again i stand corrected...think I got a little too excited when Chuck won a couple exchanges. I did think he was doing pretty damn good at first though. Chuck used to have a great chin ha. Thats all i can really say about that. Hopefully hell be fighting GSP next so who knows who will be the next contender after that...

I think he was reffering to Anderson. I think Anderson is to big for GSP as well.

I see the Hendo vs AS II fight being HUGE!

Im going to get so much shit for this, but.... I dont think Dan wants a rematch. By rd 2 of the first fight he knew he had nothing left for Silva. He gave him his back, watched that footage several times, he wanted to save himself a beating.
OK, fire away

ha forgot to say silva. Chuck definitely needs to retire hes just ruining his record now. I think GSP would almost have an advantage if he fought Anderson because they would fight at a catch weight in between middleweight and welter so Anderson would have to cut down a little bit where GSP could just add weight.

How can you blame Silva for that? Leites was fighing like a vagina. Everytime Silva came at him a little rough he tried to drop to the ground like Silva would just follow him down. Sure it would be more entertaining to see Silva go the ground with him but unless Leites could bring him down there why would Silva give up his ridiculous advantage and risk the belt?

Bro Anderson weighed in at 182 for the fight against Leites and he still looked like he could easily shed more weight if he wanted to so if Silva does fight GSP, I am guessing they would meet at 179?? Maybe someone who knows more about catch weight fights could clue us in on what the likely median weight would have to be.
Even coming in as light as he was against Leites, he still seemed very strong. I see this as being a bad fight for GSP to take, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see it.

Thats BS. He got hurt with punches, went down, AS got the back, sank the choke.
Hendo won rd1 of that fight easily. Why would ''he knew he had nothing left for Silva.'' if he won the first round?!
Doesnt make sense, and if he didnt wanna another shot at AS, why would he be coaching TUF this season? Winner of Bisping/Hendo obviously gets the next shot. After Okami.

^^ Bisping v Hendo Dont think Mikey has a chance in that one... Dan is too good for him imo

There is no definite catch weight, it is whatever the two fighter agree too and generally is around the middle...so about 176 maybe. Definitely not saying Silva would be at a disadvantage overall, just that in terms of weight GSP has the advantage in being able to weigh more than normal. I would definitely have my money on Silva for the fight but at the same time who knows. They are both dominant in their division and have damn near no flaws in their game any more so it was be interesting to watch. I am pretty confident Dana will match them up depending on the GSP vs Alves fight, there is way too much hype not too and Dana is more about money and entertainment than anything. With only 4 fights left for Silva Dana's gonna try to profit as much as he can...thats got GSP vs Silva written all over it IMO.

^ The guy is an amimal.
And honestly, hes not a very big guy. They list him at 6'1, i can assure you that there is no way he is even 6'.
He told me he was 5'10 1/2 and didnt know where they got 6'1 from?
-
04-27-2009, 07:58 PM #32
he is tiny for 205 as well. He is a total throw back in that he can beat anyone from 185 to heavy on any given day. Absolute joy to watch

^ Yeah hes usually around 200lbs just walking around weight.
He doesnt enjoy cutting though. I feel for him, ive been cutting weight all my life as well, and it only gets harder with age.
