Sylvia also prepared for a boxing match and a week before the fight it got changed to a mma match. Wow he got caught by an ex pro boxer. Does it drop him in the rating yes is he still top 10 yes.

Mercer isnt no slouch, he's be throwing punches before MMA existed.

Funny to think that Sylvia beat AA twice and thought he would destroy Fedor

These MMA fighters are a little cocky and overconfident in their boxing abilities. I would love nothing more than to see Roy Jones shut Anderson Silva up.

Silva would murder Jones 10 times out of 10. In boxing that would be another story. To me all these comparissons are useless and stupid. Its like saying An NBA player would woop an NHL player at basketball. Two different sports!

MMA and Boxing has a LOT more in common than NBA and NHL.....lol
Lots of guys have done well in MMA with out ever being taken to the ground.
Chuck is still probably the biggest star in MMA, and dominated the deepest class for a long time with simple sprawl and unorthodox boxing.
And Tim did the same in the HW class. Take down defense, and boxing.

I agree! I love Silva, his style is outstanding, and his striking is phenomenal (for the UFC)... but last week, when I was watching him drop his arms, and essentially just walked away from Griffin, before knocking him out... I was thinking.. Imagine Silva in a boxing match.
I would bet Silva wouldn't last a round against Jones (IN A BOXING MATCH). The punches he throws... woooah. I would not be on the receiving end of one of those.

call me crazy, but i think AS stands a good chance. roy jones is 5 yrs past his prime and AS is in the middle of his. he has power, fast hands, great head movement and creats awsome angles. the only thing is that he usually doesnt throw but 20 punches a fight and that wont cut it in a boxing match, lol. when you strike you open yourself alot more to get hit, so idk how his style will work in a ring with 16oz (or 12oz not sure what they would wear). im sure he knows this, but i give he a shot.

Yah... lol.. The way I see it though, if Silva ever tried to disrespect Jones, and drop his shoulders / arms (like in the Griffin fight), Jones would feed him like 20 - 30 ruthless jabs to the face.
Silva's great, don't get me wrong. He's one of the best strikers out there, but boxing is a completely different sport, I guarantee he'd be dropped in the first round or two

Jones himself said that boxers are one-dimensional fighters, because that is all the have to do. And in order to be a great boxer, you have to be great at the one thing...boxing. In order to be a great MMA fighter you have to be good at many aspects of fighting and not necessarily great at any one aspect. AS stands little to know chance against Jones in a boxing match, just as Jones stands absolutely no chance against AS in a MMA match.

Sylvia still is great fighter!
To me, it looked like he took this fight very lightly and did not train seriously at all...
Mercer was a very good boxer and won gold medal in 88 Olympic.
He got fat and much slower now but pro (or even former pro) boxers never forget how hard they have to train to win because boxing have always been the most competitive sports.
Age is nothing as long as you truly have will to fight and win!
