BJJ/Sub Grappling in Olympics????
Being that Rio is host to the 2016 olympic games is there any chance that BJJ/sub grappling could be introduced. I know that the host country is allowed to have an introductory sport that is then voted on by the IOC for induction to be an olympic sport. Any chance for us? Please discuss.

I know its going to be hard with Judo and wrestling already an olympic sport,so maybe it would be better to go ADCC style instead of with the GI. Lets all hope and pray. I'd love to hear from the Black belts especially

subwrestling (ADCC) should be olimpic, I dont see Bjj being, but subwrestling has to be a must, you have to differnt styles of grappling right now in the olimpics, wreslitng and judo, neither sport makes the best grappler. I just dont see subwrestling turning olimpic becuase I see the US strongly opposing to it, Since wrestling is such a big part of the american culture. If subwrestling turns olimpic, lots of ppl now doing wrestling throuhgt high school and college will chose to go sub because 1. its also olimpic, 2. will transition faster and better to MMA (though wrestling it self does it) 3. is muuuuuch more fun than, so big part of that culture will fade away with time...

I think it is a good idea... it is competitive and popular in the world right now. The Olympics hosts a ton of really ridiculous sports like badminton and such so why not a really challenging competitive one. I do think roid has the right take though. It would be really hard because Countries base their international status on how they perform in these events. It would be really hard to get all to accept, but if the MMA world keeps growing like it is, I think it is something realistic and possibly likely in the future.

i agree with both you guys. Hopefully we can see it though. I would love to see the U.S. vs Brazil or Japan in sub grappling. Could you imagine the teams that could be fielded? Also they should have a trials and only the winners from each division can make the teams.

If it happens, ill be there. Though i might be too old to compete at such a level by 2016. lol
Regardless, i think its safe to say, Brasil will introduce some form of BJJ. Be it BJJ with the GI, or Sub Wrestling NO GI.
I would prefer the latter.

I agree i think No-Gi would be the way to go. The trials alone for a shot at the olympics would be amazing. Like ADCC only bigger

Itll be a whole different game by 2016. Some new kids will be on the scene, and the old guard will be long retired.
