Beckham to Tinsel Town
David Beckham is coming to my neck of the woods.....It's reported that he made an insane deal with the L.A. Galaxy, and he will be playing for the MLS come August. What do you all think about that?

Soccer is the #4 sport in the U.S. I see it making a little splash, but nothing serious....People here in la have been talking about it all day....these are the same people (including myself) who could give a rat's ass about soccer. It'll die down in about 1.5 days. This is Laker and Dodger country, i don't see la making any room for the Galaxy.....People will be more concerned about which clubs he and his wife are spotted at, rather than how well he's playing soccer.

beckham is washed up he might of been good 5 years ago but he is garbage now he is more of a celebrity than a soccer player thats why he is making that much money because he will put girls in the stands waiting to get a shot of him with his shirt off

i agree ... beckham is a star in europe.. he will be nothing in the US... the avg soccer player here in the states makes 30-60K a year.. there is no money in the sport. just face it the US in general like sports that have big plays, high scores and balls to the wall action...
it will take soccer 20years to even build a fallowing up enough that they can play their players enough money not to run to europe to play...
my bet is beckham will only stay for the money.. and i still think there is a chance he will go back to england where he is a star (washed up or not)..

I am from wales in the Uk and i like nothing more then english to lose but in this case beckham has won by a mile off and so have LA.
Good luck for those who have an interest in soccer

my comment about being washed up was saying.. in a few years i believe he return .. if at the time he is washed up or not..
the point i was sayin was there is no real talent in US. because there is no money in it here. so real talent leaves..
he is going to get the money, so he might stay.... but then again if he is as great as everybody thinks don't you think he will want to go back so he can actually play against people on his level?????
if he loves the sport then he will want to play against people on the top level, and at this point in time that is not the US...

He isn't at the top of his game and will not return to it. That's why Real doesn't care if he leaves and Englands national team made other players captain.

The whole idea of beckham going to LA is to put the US on the map for soccer ( Football as we call it ) I fully understand what your saying soccer isnt a major sport over in the states..So hes been out priced to go there and probably in 5-8 years time he would probably manage a club over there if not USA its self.
America has amazing talent and yes there leaving to go to italian ' spanish ' british clubs to get there money ...The population over in the states is everything to play for ... you are going to find excepeptional talent over there and players will eventualy stay.
Ide take bets at this time the USA win the World cup within 12 years.
Good luck guys or those who love footy Enjoy the the ride.

I do not know how the L.A. Galaxy intends to pay Beckham because soccer is not that big of a deal to generate that kind of cash here…Should be interesting.

The Galaxy are only paying him 10 million a year. The rest of it comes from his emdorsments. He would get that no matter where he plays.
