mixing low GI carbs with fat
i know a small amount of fat is permitted when eating low GI carbs but can you get away with a bit more than a 'small amount'?
obviously i never eat fat with high GI carbs, but was wandering about the effect of a carb/pro/fat meal would have
if the carbs are low GI, then there wont be a high insulin surge, also the addition of fat and protein would reduce the GI of the carbs
so is there really anything to worry about with this

Not sure how much fat you are talkin here but I think would be that fats mixed with low GI carbs wouldn't be that bad. Probably easier to get away with when dieting rather than bulking. Just try and keep the fats healthy.

not a huge amount
eg.
pro 40g
carb 60g
fat 15g
(something like that)
yeah my fats are always healthy and so are my carbs
so i wont worry about adding a little fat in now and again to my pro/carb meals
i'm curious though - why is it easier to get away with when cutting - i wouldve thought it'd be the other way round?

I think its ok. A meal with lentils or bean for instance has such a ridicilously low gi that It wont aid fatgain at all. Some brown rice with like salmon and a mouthfull of seeds before that is a awsome meal.
Its just like you say aswell, the fat and protein lowers the gi.(just look at the gi of peanuts). So if the carb source is low gi to begin with and you add fat, fibers and protein the gi wont matter.

this would be a perfect pro/fat/carb meal
brown rice and salmon with lots of fibrous veggies. Before the meal chew down a mouthfull of seeds and drink some vinegar.

drink some vinegar?
thats sounds terrible - but i like balsamic so much i reckon i could pretty much down a whole bottle (if i wanted to that is)

the vinegar is just to lower the ph of the stomach. Lower ph means lower gi. Just mix some apple cider vinegar with water and drink. Doesnt taste all that well but it works good and suposedly its healthy aswell.

yeah - lemon juice does the same too
i find it difficult to use balsamic - cos i like it too much and up putting far too much on which pretty much negates the positive impact

or you could practice what I preach and drink a big glass of water mixed with ascorbic acid
but yeah lemon would work why the hell didnt I think of that??

i have 2 lemons a day..
and what type of seeds are you talking bout johan and whats the nutrition value of them???????
-

flax seeds or psyllium seeds. The nutrition value is negligable since they pass through the body undigested. If you crush the flax seeds before consumin they have some fat and protein. The fat is offcourse flax oil. Its a better source for flax oil than bottled flax oil since it contains anti estrogenic lignants ect.

nope oatmeal is in the medium range of gi closer to high than low. Low gi is foods like lentils and beans. Brown rice is good but it has about twice the gi of beans and lentils.
Oatmeal is a good food because of the fibers ect, not neccesarly beacuase of the gi.
comparison
sugar has a gi of 97
white bread 100
lentils 42
beans 25-40
oatmeal 89
brown rice 78 or so.
Whole grain pasta around 60

imo the thing that determines the quality of a carbsoruce is a combination of GI and high micronutrient content. But if you are gonna mix a carb source with fat only the first thing factors in.
