    cardio before or after workout?

Ive heard both ways about cardio, some say do it before and some say do it after. If you're doing it to burn fat, i say do it after because glucogen would be low or gone leaving the next source of energy to be fat. I havent heard a good reason to why you would want to do cardio before your workout so I was wanting to know if there even was a good reason. Wouldn't doing cardio before a workout be bad because glycogen would be gone and while working out the body would have to break down protein for energy since lifting is an anerobic activity? What's the reasons for doing one way or the other?

there's a philosophy for cutting fat that says you should do 20min cardio before you touch weights, this to put your body in a fat burning mode throughout your workout and when you do another 30min after workout, your pretty set....

Cardio after. your workout will burn all your stored glycogen, thus when you get on the treadmill after the workout all you have to burn for fuel is stored bodyfat. NEVER do cardio before weights unless your a female who does'nt care about perserving muscle mass.

    ^^^ EXACTLY

PLUS if you do cardio before at your target heart rate, then your weight training will suffer as you will already be drained and tired and won't be pushing as much weights

5-10 min warm up cardio is fine......

^^^always after. Or split up your workouts. Cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Weights in the afternoon.

like swol said, when i train clients its based on their goals. For the people who do not care about muscle mass and want to lose weight (the general population) i might do cardio before. in my case, i do it after.. i feel drained from after a resistance training workout, hence enough gylcogen depleted out of my muscles... then i bang out some cardio either low resistance or alternating high and low to burn as much fat as i can

I'd definately do cardio first thing in the morning. I'm cutting right now and I'm having great results. Thou if you have to do it either before or after I'd say after, since you're depleted of all your glycogen. Thou the method jamyjamjr suggested looks interessting to me. Anyways, I think you have to try and look what's best for you!

    yea, it is interesting..

but be aware it is for those who wanna cut fat, it will prob cost you some muscle in the process (unless your doing a great deal of suppliments and dieting like a nazi)

there are certain compounds that allow you to go on more of an extreme caloric deficit...

    about 20% under your tdce-400kcal...

i would need to know more about your cycle history, if you have that...

the compound im talking about isn't for people who've only done one or two cycles..

but things like l-glutamine, amino acids and a good pwo shake with carbs in it between your resistance traning and cardio will only work for your better...

dnp works well for fat loss, but its also very dangerous to use....

but if you wanna get into compounds i would need stats..

    age
    weight
    height
    bf
    traininng history
    cycle history

i was actually asking for a different reason than myself. I pretty much already knew this answer but wanted comfirmation or an explaination. i haven't started cutting yet but I doubt i'll have problems with it since i'm somewhat of a hard gainer.

id love to critique your diet... when i hear those words together "hard gainer" i think theres an issue with diet and/or training routine

i think i hear that 10x a day at college from kids who ask me for help, they are either "hard gainers" or "can't lose weight no matter what they do"

so you don't think it's easier for some people to gain or lose weight than it is for others? my diet is great. I used the term hardgainer to give you an idea of my body type. ectomorph.

we're not saying that, we're saying that people like using terms and phrases like that as excuses, i wasn't talking about you but people in general

oh ok. i bet there are a ton of people that make excuses like that and don't even try to change their body because they think its going to be too hard so they just say that and don't try. i don't believe it. i know it all works, but it is easier for some people than it is for others. i just wish i was a mesomorph lol
