Forget shakes with the exception of pwo, casein before bed, and as needed in times where whole food isn't available. Forget weight gainers as well. You'll see better results this way:

Eat a serving of lean meat and complex carbs 30 minutes pre-workout and slam a whey shake with carbs 15 minutes pwo. 60 minutes later, eat anothr whole food meal centered around lean meat and complex carbs. In addition, have another 4-6 whole food meals throughout the day. You won't be a "hardgainer" anymore. As long as gaining body fat isn't an issue, keep eating more and more. Limit simple carbs, trans/sat fat, and carbs before bed. You'll gain.

Definitely. Actually cottage cheese is probably a better choice than casein as it's real food.

Friendship brand whole milk cottage cheese is delicious and has only 2g of sugar per serving. Most brands are double that.

Regardless, I think casein is an exponentially better choice bro. Cottage cheese is loaded with sodium. I believe 20-30% DV per serving. It is also higher in sugar and saturated fat. Don't get me wrong, it's better than most before bed options, just not the best.
The best, IMO, would be a lean steak. If you happen to get up at night to pee, have a shake on stand-by if you really wanna go hard. That's what I did my last cycle and I gained and kept 25 lbs through PCT.

Based on what Damien is saying regarding sodium, casein might be the better choice. It all depends on what you care more about - cottage cheese is a real food, casein is a processed powder full of other strange things.

Agreed 100% though about a lean steak being the top choice of all. I just can't cook a steak at that hour, don't like eating a cooked one cold, and steak in the microwave tastes like shit IMO. I stick with casein and natty PB, it's like a snack before bed.

Think I am going to alternate the two depending on how I feel, appetite seems to be my biggest problem with putting on weight.
