Making a diet on a low budget and college cafeteria food

Before I moved to college I had a decent diet down but now its all been blow to shit. I have no way of cooking anything and the meals that are served that the school arnt what im looking for in protein intake. Any hints for surviving my years in school and being able to keep building?

I recently went back to college for 2 years. I was a bit to old to be doing really but I ****ed around in my teens and now Im having to catch up..
Anyway, I managed build some good solid size over that period and mostly on a low budget.
I find the only way to do this is to take your own food in every day. The same applies for most work places, hardly anyone has assess to high quality affordable food at work or school ect.
If you dont do that your gona be spending a bomb each day and you dont know what your putting in your mouth most of the time.
Protein bars and shakes are handy but should only be used to supplement your diet.

My main source of protein then was tinned tuna fish and carbs where brown rice. They where the basics but ideally your going to have to increase your income to be able to afford every thing you need, but of course thats easier said than done.

I do feel your pain though, Im going be going through it all again soon at university! brilliant.....

Most US campuses still offer a good variety of fruits and vegetables, just do your best and look for the highest protein meals and stay away from as much processed stuff as you can, the shame of it is that your right, it should be easy to get the right nutrition at the college level.

Unfortunately you'll have to supplement some of your food choices, it shouldn't be that bad and you'll get even smarter about food when you have to hunt for good deals.

    Why cant you prep food

I would be able to get by with the following if i was at college in digs

    Microwave
    Blender
    George forman grill
    Slow cooker
    Rice cooker

All of these things are great for guys who cant get good cooking facilities

A basic starter would be a microwave, blender and grill

You can then buy the following foods and get by on a budget

    Chicken breasts
    Steak
    Ground beef
    Canned tuna
    Rice
    Oats
    Potatoes

There is so much you can do if u put ur mind to it

Chilli con carne has to be the all time best cheap bodybuilder friendly meal, you could cook one of them up in a slow cooker overnight

I feel for you mate! Try making a clean diet in Kabul with an Afghani chef. Last night was spaghetti (sort of), a weird spaghetti sauce and bread

thank god I have a crap load of protein powder, peanut butter, tuna, and rolled oats... in fact, just had my protein shake, fiber, and getting ready to go eat unsweatened granola cereal with non fat milk.

Sometimes ya just gotta do the best with what ya got!

    Good luck

I used to have to eat cafeteria food also so I know what you are talking about. I became friends with the staff and at the end of dinner service before they were ready to break the line they would load me up with a huge to go plate or two. Most campusus have to throw the food out at the end of the day anyway because of health regulations. You may want to try this.

I am living in a dorm. The unfortunate thing is is that they have very strict rules on what you can have in there. For example no george forman grills, slow cookers, or even rice cookers. I will have to either hide it or find another way...
