Cut the milk, cut the waistline
About 2-3 months ago I made the switch to just water with my shakes and no milk whatsoever. It was more than you would think because I drink that with 6-7 meals a day, probably came out to about a 1/4 gallon a day average.
Well at first I thought this is making absolutely no difference at all, but recently I pulled out the old tape measure to check where I was at not even thinking about the milk factor. Last time I measured I was about 32" around the stomach give or take and no matter what I did I could not get lower than that.
Actually I probably could but did not want to sacrifice the weight loss that would come along with it.
So anyway I am now down to a little over 31 inches at the same exact weight, with no cardio whatsoever in the past month and a half. I am pretty active during the day with my job but I eat a ton of calories on those days so it is a wash. I was doing cardio 5x a week and could not break through the 32 mark, and I was pretty stunned when I looked at the measurement today, especially with cardio non existent recently.
An inch or so may not seem like a lot but at about 14% BF and only a 187lbs it is a whole lot, especially considering how long I was stuck there despite doing everything possible to get it lower.
Only thing I can tie it to is the milk factor. It has to be, I am actually eating MORE than I ever have (clean though) and my weight is the same, so it's not like I am losing all over. Strength is right up there where it has been for some time. No supplements whatsoever either just good diet.
I am now inspired to hop back on the cardio train and see if I can get this thing under 30.....which just a few months ago I thought was going to be impossible.

I've been considering this as well. The only part of my body that is a little soft is right around the belly button. I drink 2 shakes a day with about 8oz of milk each time. I also have probably half oz of cheese in my diet and nonfat yogurt. The rest of my diet is very strict.
My problem is the taste of the shakes with water. To me it tastes 100x better with milk than water.
You have inspired me to give it a try though. What type of milk were you drinking?

I love milk, normally I would drink the better part of a gallon sometimes exceeding a gallon in a day (of skim of course). Considering it's a simple carb, it's not that high on the GI, however, if you're trying to cut, it's def something you want to cut out of your diet. The cons are for 1 milk is just delicious and amazing! 2 You will be less full from meals (this can be a pro for some) 3 Cutting out a possibly significant source of protein (for me it is) The pros are 1 it will better suit your macro nutrient ratios for cutting, 2 you're cutting out a Mid level GI food, 3 dairy will bloat you, and if you want a more dry, muscular look, you're going to have to cut it out. Okay, just for the record this is all mostly IMO, but I find it all to be true. This is coming from a true milk lover, and when I'm cutting (which I am now) I drink only 1-8oz glass post workout, for a couple reasons that aren't important. I can understand why some people cut it out completely all the time, but I can also understand why people won't cut it out at all. I think the role of milk in a cutting diet can be a somewhat debated topic, however, bottom line is that if you've seen how your body reacts to X amount of milk and have a good understanding of that, all the facts in the world won't change that.

Skim of course, and hell yeah it tastes better!
I used to drink a gallon every other day, and it was all I drank growing up. If I can do it you can.
It takes a little getting used to but I don't even notice it anymore.
After a month I was considering going back to it because I saw no difference whatsoever, I was stunned the other day when I saw what I was down to after a couple months.
Every once in a while if I need a fix I will buy as 16oz and just chug it.....heaven.Last edited by bigslick7878; 03-23-2011 at 10:41 AM.

Can you elaborate? Not trying to be a cock at all; just wondering how you define "function". I mean, milk can be great for PWO hydration, an easy way to increase protein intake, tons of calcium and vitamins - all granted. It's merely that it's another animal's milk and we lack the enzymes to properly digest and ascimilate it. As such, we all have a dairy intolerance to some extent - it causes some serious bloat, gastrointestinal distress, and is high in sugar.
Not saying it can't have it's place but I see no need for it. And certainly, no desire for it when the goal is aesthetics.
